OVEN FOR COOKING-STOVES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CURT MYERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springport, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ovens for Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cooking stoves, ranges and the like and it has particular reference to the ovens connected with or forming part of stoves of this character.
The present invention has for its object to provide an oven with a slidable grate of suitable construction which may be readily drawn forward from the oven when the door of the latter is open and securely supported in such position, thus enabling the ans containing bread, meat or other articles that are to be cooked to be conveniently placed in position and exposed for inspection when desired, without danger of tilting and spilling any portion of the contents.
Further objects of the invention are to simplify and improve the construction and operation of a device of this character.
With these and other ends in view which willreadily appear as the nature of the in vention is better understood the same con sists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention; it being however understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the invention, may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a stove with the oven door open and the grate exposed to View in advance of the oven. Fig. 2 is a sectional detail view showing the grate and a portion of the oven in the relative positions shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view taken through the oven and showing the grate shoved back within the latter. Fig. at is a broken detail view showing a portion of the top of the grate.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference.
The device which constitutes the present invention may be applied to ovens of stoves and ranges of various constructions, and a Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 10, 1909.
Patented Apr. 19, 1910. Serial No. 512,225.
cooking stove A of conventional constructlon has been shown in Fig. 1 for the purposes of illustration only, said stove being equipped with the oven B, the door of which C is hingedly supported at one of its side edges.
Supported longitudinally upon the bottom 5 of the oven are a plurality of supporting strips 6, said strips being preferably disposed in parallel relation to support the grate 7 which is guided between said supporting strips and guide rails, one of which 8 is supported upon each side wall 9 of the oven at a distance above the upper surfaces of the supporting strips 6 which is just sufficient to admit of the introduction of the grate 7 and to enable the latter to slide freely. To limit the movement of the grate in an outward or forward direction from the oven brace members are provided each consisting of a pair of links 10 and 11 the meeting ends of which are pivotally connected as at 12; the terminal end of one link 10 of each brace being pivotally connected with a lug 13 suitably connected with the grate and the terminal end of the link 12 being likewise connected, by a pivotal pin 14 with the proximate side wall 9 of the oven.
The grate 7 which may be made of cast iron or other suitable material is provided with a plurality of longitudinal slots in one of which a locking lever 16 is pivotally supported upon a fulcrtun pin 17 which is located near the forward or outer end of the lever, the rearward portion of which will thus normally gravitate in a downward direction; the movement of said lever being however limited by a keeper 18 secured upon the grate and confining a thumb piece 19 which is formed upon the forward end of the lever. The latter is provided adjacent to its rear end with a shoulder or offset 20 which, when the grate is drawn in a forward direction from the oven, will engage the front edge of one of the supporting strips 6 as clearly shown in Fig. 2, thus preventing the grate from being shoved back into the oven until the engagement of the shoulder 20 with the front edge of the strip 6 is released by depressing the thumb piece 19 at the forward end of the lever. The braces composed of the links l0-11 will limit the movement of the grate in both directions as will be readily understood.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings hereto an- 1 neXed, the operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood. The construction is extremely simple and inexpensive, and the invention is capable of being readily applied to the ovens of cooking stoves of most existing patterns.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. An oven, supporting strips secured upon the bottom plate of the oven longitudi nally and in parallel relation, a grate slidably supported upon said strips, guide rails for said grate upon the side walls of the oven, and a locking lever pivotally connected with the grate and having a shoulder or offset adapted to engage the forward edge of one of the supporting strips.
2. An oven, supporting strips secured longitudinally and in parallel relation upon the bottom plate of said oven, a grate supported slidably upon said strips, guide rails for said grate secured upon the side walls of the oven, link braces pivotally connected with the grate and with the side walls of the oven, and a locking lever pivotally connected with the grate and having a shoulder or offset adapted to engage the forward edge of one of the supporting strips when the grate is drawn in a forward direction.
In testimony whereof I my signature in presence of two witnesses.
