Letters Patent No. 95,542, dated October 5, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN BATH-TUB EDUCTION-TUBEB.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that ;I, WILLIAM H. WALTox, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and let-Pipes and I do hereby declare the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in connecting hath-tubs to outlet-pipes, so as to facilitate their removal at any time, in case of leakage, without cutting and resoldering the outlet-pipe.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, 1 will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure 1 is a general section.
Figure 2 is a section of the coupling, full-size.
Figure 3 is a plan of. the same.
A is the hath-tub, with a metal lining, a.
B is the floor, to which is screwed the flange C.
D is the lead outlet-pipe, fitting outside the brass spigot'E, and hammered out over the flange 0.
They are then soldered together, and also to the flange G, thus securing the spigot E, pipe D, and flange 0, all securely togetherand'to'the floor.
The socket H is cast with a tapering flange, h, on
This socket is bored out, and ground to fit the end 6 of the spigot E water-tight.
It is secured to the bath-tub, as shown in fig. 1, by "cement or rubber, under the flange h, and tightened up by the nut K.
All that is necessary-now .to connect the hath-tub with the outlet-pipe is to pla e the hath-tubdnposition, so that the socket H fits over the ground joint e, and the connection is complete and water-tight.
The bath-tub is disconnected just as easily, by simply raising it sutticiently to free it from the spigot E, thus ayoiding the usual expense incurred by cutting and resoldering the outlet-pipe.
A ring of-Indiarubber maybe placed upon the spigot 0', so as to insnret-he joint being water-tight.
-M is the stop which is withdrawn to liberate the water.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the bath-tub A, with the socket H secured to it, as shown, and fitting upon the spigot 1d, secured to thefioor B, and outlet-pipe D, nut K,

its upper edge; a screw is cut on the lower end, on which fits the nut K.
