To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN BRUNO Romano, a citizen of the United States, residing at Camarillo, in the county of Vcntura, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Measuring-Funnels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in measuring funnels, and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this character.
With this and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereafter shown and de scribed and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention, Figure l is a side elevation of the improved device. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional elevation of the same.
The improved device comprises a body 10, preferably in funnel shape and with a discharge 11 and provided with a handle 12 at one side. Extending transversely of the body 10 near the discharge end is a trans verse concaved partition 13 from which a discharge tube 14 depends, the upper end of the discharge tube having a valve seat 15 preferably formed with inclined sides as shown. The seat member 15 is preferably arranged at an incline to the longitudinal axis of the body 10, and is also in alinement with a tubular member 16 extending from the body within the handle 12, as shown. Extending through the tubular member 16 is a rod 17 having a valve 18 at its lower end adapted to be seated within the seat 15 when the rod is in its inward position. The rod extends through the outer end of the tubular member 16 and terminates in a finger grip 19 beyond the member 16. Located within the tubular member 16 and surrounding the rod 17 is a soring 20 operating to maintain the rod yielc ably in its inward position, with the valve within the seat 15, and thus cutting off the discharge from the body 10.
As before stated the tubular member 16 with its rod 17 and finger grip 19 are located within the handle 12, and connected to the handle at its lower side is another finger grip 21, to receive the little finger of the hand of the operator, as hereafter explained.
With a device thus constructed the valve 18 is maintained normally in engagement with the seat 15, and thus shuts off the discharge from the funnel. \Vhen the contents of the funnel are to be discharged, the operator grasps the handle 12 with the little finger engaging the finger grip 21 and the forefinger of the same hand engaging in the ring member 19. The operator then places the discharge tube 11 of the funnel in the neck of the bottle or other receptacle and draws the rod 17 outwardly to withdraw the valve 18 from its seat 15 and thus permit the con tents of the funnel to escape. When the contents are fully discharged the release of the rod 17 will permit the spring 20 to automatically return the valve to its seat and thus enable the device to be refilled.

What is claimed is 1. A measuring vessel having a handle extending from one side, a discharge tube connected into said vessel and provided with a valve seat at its intake end, said valve seat being arranged obliquely to the longitudinal axis of the vessel, a tube extending from the vessel and located within the handle, the longitudinal axis of the tube being in alinement with the longitudinal axis of the valve seat, a rod extending through said tube and hav ing a finger grip at its outer end and within the handle, a valve at the inner end of the rod adapted to engage said valve seat, and a spring operating upon said rod to maintain the valve connected therewith yieldably in closed position.
