Be it linown that I, Franci-:mon A. Gurn, ya citizen of the United States of Americn, residing at Waverly, in the county oi Piko. and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Lnprovcments in 'lilting-Gnte-Operal-ing Mechanism, of which the follinving is a. specification.

A. latch-controlling rod 28 is revolubly mounted in the channel of the member and at one end the seid rod is formed with u ngcr 29 and at its op )osito end with o. similar finger 30. The nger 30 is positioned beneath the portion 31 of u pvoted latch 32 which is located adjacent to the outer extremity of the bar B und adapted to cooperate with o.. keeper 33 upon the gate post 34. The member 26 is provided with a linger which extends between the walls of the channel formed by the bar B and as illustrated. in F1' 8 the said linger is disposed immediat f beneath the finder 29 oit the roel: rod 28. When the rock srlnlft 1 is operated to open the gate the member 26 is actuated to move the finger 35 thereof into enga 'ement with the finger 29 of the rod 2S. 4Phis movement of the member imparts rocking' movement to the rod 2S und through engagement of the finger 30 of the rod with the latch 32 the latter will be actuated and effectively released from its keeper.
The mechanisn'i illustrated in Fig, 9 illustrates that port which is located at the right of Fig. et of the drawings, and assuming o. vehicle to have engaged the member 26 the Said member will be moved to thc dotted line position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. In this movement of the member 16 the linger 1D thereof will engage the walls of the opening 5 to move the member 4 to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. In view of the commotion shown between the crank shaft- 15 and the member 4 it will be understood that when the latter is operated as just described rocking movement will be imported to the shaft l and simultaneously with such movement the latch 32 will be released from its keeper and the gato free to move in an open osition. When the shaft 1 has been actuator throuo'h the medium of the members 4 and 1G ie finger 19 of the member 16 will be temporarily locked in the offset portion 'i' of the opening 5 and the member 16 will be held in the dotted line position unt-il the gute has swung past the center of gravitation, whereupon, the pitmnn will be further elevated to actuate the member Il sufficiently to allow the finger 19 to be released from the oliset portion 7 of the opening 5. After the finger' has been released., the member 16 through the medium of the weigl'ited lever 20 will be again moved to its normal position. After movement of the vehicle past the gate it may be driven across the actuating mechanism at the left end of the part shown in Fig. 4. where the pitman 15 and -its connecting part will be actuated to move the Shaft in an opposite direction to that above described.
I claim:
1. In apparatus of the class described, a tilting gate, e'. movable member, e rock shaft opera ively 'associated with the member to move the same upon movement of the rock shaft, operative connections between the gate und said member, an actuating member connected to move with the rock shaft, means connected with the rock shaft to normolly hold its actuating member in un operntive position and means upon the movable member nc apted for engagement with the rock shaft to hold it temporarily in a locked position.
2. In an apparatus of the class described, a tilting frate, a rock shaft operatively con` nected with the gate to impart movement thereto, a crank arm extending from the rock shaft, a movable member, a rock member adapted for operation to impart movement to the said movable member, a pitman extending from the said movable member, and :i sliding member on the ptmzm and 0peratfively connected with the seid crank arm.
3. In an apparatus of the cla-ss described, a tilting gate, a rock Shaft-,operatively connected with the gate, o movable member, seid movable member having an opening formed therein and provided With contracted sind with oll'set portions, connections between the rock shaft and the said movable member, a rock member ada ted-for Acooperation with the said move-b c member, means for normallj,7 holding the said rock member out of engagement with the said. movable member and a. finger upon the said rock member adapted when movement is imparted to the said rock member to engage the walls of the opening in the movable member to impart movement to the said member whereby movement will be im urted to the rock shaft, said linger being a apted to be engaged in the offset portion of the aperture to hold the rock member temporarily in a locked position.
