TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONOERN:
Be it known that we, JAMES MoLrNnUx and Parnu BLoonsnUnG, Jr., both of Bordentown, Burlington county, New Jersey, have linvented a new Mechanical Movement; and we ldo hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Our invention consists of certain mechanism, described hereafter, for transmitting from a single eccentric on a driving-shaft a positive rotary motion to another shaft.
In order to enable others skilled in machinery of the class to which this .most nearly appertains to make and' use our invention, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation. On reference to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification- Figures land 2 are side views; and
Figure 3, a plan-view of our mechanical movement; and
Figure l is a view of part of the saine.

A is the driving-shaft, and A the shaft, to which a rotary motion has to be imparted from the driving-shaft, and on the latter is an eccentric, B, embraced by the end b ofthe eccentric-rod C, the outer end of the latter being adapted to the pin f of the crank G on the end of the shaft A. To this pin f is secured a plate, g, on which is a pin, t, adapted to receive the outer end of a rod, F, thc inner end of which is jointed to the arm ot of a bell-crank lever, D, the latter being hung to a pin or shaft, C, secured to any stationary object. The arm d of the bell-crank lever D is connected'by a link, E, to a pin, e, on a projection on the rod 1J of the eccentricrod C. It will be seen, on reference to fig. 4, that a double crank is formedon the end of the shaft A, or, in other words, there are two cranks of equal length, one crank situated at right angles to the other. On turning the shaft A in the direction of its arrow the shaft A will be turned in the same direction, the several parts moving in the direction pointed out by their arrows until the most projecting portion of the eccentric B passes the line :z: drawn through the centres ofthe two shafts A and A, after which the rods and levers will commence a movement in a direction contrary to that pointed out. As seen in fig. I, the eccentric is exerting little or no power to turn the shaft A through the medium of the crank G, as the latter occupies a position nearly ccincident with the line fr. The same eccentric, however, is exerting its full force to turn the shaft through the medium of the other crank. When one crank is on what is termed the dead-centre the other is always in the best position for acting as a medium for transmitting motion to the shaft A precisely as in the crank-shaft of coupled marine engines.
In the present instance the movement is illustrated as being applied to the transmission of a motion from the crank-shaft to the rotating valves of a steamengine, but it will be evident that the device may be advanf tagcously used in a variety of cases where a positive rotary motion has to be imparted from one shaft to another, especially when the shafts are at such a distance apart from each other as to render the introduction of cogwheels cumbrous and costly.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The single eccentric B on the driving-shaft, the eccentric-rod C, lever D and rod F, in combination with the double crank on the driving-shaft, the whole being arranged and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
