Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed October 12, 1909. Serial No. 522,224.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE PLoURnE, a subject of the King of England, residing in Paterson, Passaic county, and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Hat-Pins; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to means for safeguarding hat pins and the like against loss while being worn and it consists in certain improvements in such means having for their purpose to provide an attractive attachment to the pin, comprising a guard or holder and a flexible swivel connection between the pin and guard or holder so that however the pin may be inserted the flexible connection w1ll not wind thereon or become twisted or kinked.

The ring is at one end of a light chain Z or other flexible device is then secured in the holes h, the other end of the chain Z carrying the guard or holder m, which is preferably in the form of a spring clip.
In Fig. 3 the butt end of the pin-proper n is threaded, as at 0, being screwed into one end of a sleeve 72 in all other respects like the sleeve e; in the other end of said sleeve is fixed the stud q of the head '1" of the pin.

The purpose of the arrangements shown in Figs. 3 and 4 is to permit the wearer to remove the valuable head part of the pin from the pin itself, if for any reason this is desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I c aim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination of a pin having an annular shoulder, a clevis swiveled on the pin and havin an opening receiving the shoulder and being limited by said shoulder against movement lengthwise of the pin, a guard or holder, .and a flexible connection between the guard or holder and the clevis, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a pin pro er, a head, a sleeve connecting the pin an head and fixed to the one and removably attached to the other of them and having an annular shoulder, a clevis swiveled on the sleeve and having an openin receiving the shoulder and being limited y said shoulder against movement lengthwise of the sleeve, a guard or holder, and a flexible connection between the guard or holder and the clevis, substantially as described.
