Description

T, G. TRIGGER.
TOOTH SWAGB. APPLIOATION IILED JULY 17, 1909.
Patented Mar. 29, 1910.
WIT/M55155 Q l UNITED STATES THEODORE C. TRIGGER, OF ST. THOMAS, ONTARIO, CANADA.
TOOTH-SWAGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 29, .1910.
Application filed July 17, 1909. Serial No. 508,196.
To all whom 'it may concern: Be it known that I, THnononEC. Tamera, a subject of the King of Great Britain, re-
siding at St. Thomas, in the county of Elgin,
Province of Ontario, and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'looth-Swages, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a tooth swage, used for swaging gold plate backin upon teeth in bridge-work, or crown worfi or other work to which the device is applicable, and my object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device which will be highly eflicient for the purpose stated.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, and form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved tooth swage, and a tooth ready forinsertion therein. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof, partly broken away and in section. F i 3 is a front end elevation thereof, and Pig. 4 is a cross end section therethrough and through a tooth therein.
In accordance with m invention, I provide a tooth swage which comprises a body or member 5, composed of a soft compressible material, such as rubber, and its equivalents, and has-in one end, a cavity 6, and par allel slots 7, which are spaced rom one another and communicate with said cavity 6. Thus a tooth 8, having rearwardly outstanding spaced studs or pins 9, and provided with a backing ofa thin sheet of gold pressed to the same over said pins, may be lnserted within the cavity 6 of member 5, the pins 9 engaging slots 7 thereofand when the said body member is pressed either by squeezing between the fin ers or hammering the same, the said gol backing will be firmly pressed against the tooth and shaped thereto.
It is obvious from the drawings that the i device as a whole, owing to the upwardly and outwardly curved sidesof the bod portion'5, is especially ada ted to be. he d between the fin ers. It is a so obvious that my swage is ma e ofan integral piece of elastic material, and that the tooth is protectedfrom being cracked or the like, upon all sides, and should the swage be dropped, the tooth within the same would be entirely protected.
By this operation, which takes place in the preparation of bridge-worker crown work, or work to which the device is applicable, no harm is done either to the tooth or the gold backing thereof,
Having fully described my invention, I claim: 1
A tooth swage of the character described, comprising elongated body portion having outwardly and upwardly spreading sides formed of a readil compressible and expansible material, sait body portion being provided with a longitudinally arran ed opening upon the enlarged end thereo adapted to contain the tooth to be swaged, said 0 ening being adapted to be readily closed uring the swaging of said tooth when pressure is exerted laterally upon the upper portion of said body portlon, whereby said tooth is entirely enveloped within said body portion, substantially as and for the purpose described. I I In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
