Be it known that we, JOHN A. COFFEY ancl CLARENCE C. BOWEN, citizens of the Unitecl States, resicling at Cadillac, in the county of VVexforcl ancl State 0f' Michigan, have inventecl certain new and useful Improvements in Corner-Fastening Devices f0r Boxes, Crates, &c.; ancl we do hereby cleclare the following t0 be a full, clear, ancl exact clescription of ehe invention, such as Will en able others skillecl in tl1e art to which it apperains t0 make ancl use the same, reference being hacl to the accompanying drawings, ancl to the letters of reference markecl there on, which form a part 0f this specificat-iou.

This invention relates t0 new ancl useful improvements in cletachable fastenings for corners of crates, boxes, etc. and comprises a simple ancl eflicient clevice of this nature having various details 0f construction, combinations ancl arrangements of parts which Will be hereinafter fully describecl ancl then specifically clefinecl in the appenclecl claims.

Said strap D is posit-io-necl acljacent t0 the plate C ancl, when the sicle and end are fastenecl together, the outer face of tl1e encl B is adaptecl t0 contact With the inner edge 0f said cleat, thus securely holding tl1e parts together.

It Will be noted that the ends of the plates H are bent at right angles and extend over the top ancl bottom of the inner section 0f tl1e box 01 crate anal securely fastened thereto. One of saicl plates H is fastenecl to each vertical marginal edge of the end, as shown, and adaptecl t0 engage the loops 0r pockets upon ehe strips fastened to the opposite sicles, thus forming a secure means f0r holding the Walls 0f the b0X or crate together. VVhen it is desired to knock down the box, saicl ends may be withclrawn by pulling the tongues out of the loops 0r pockets, thus allow1ng the b0x 130 be folcled into a compact forma lt'or shipment, storage or other purposes.

What we clain1 t0 be new is:

l. In combination with the end and sicle Walls of a box, a cleat fastenecl to the encl face of one Wall, a bar fastenecl parallel t0 saicl cleat and to the Wall carrying said cleat and spacecl apart a slight clistance from the latter, a metallic strip extencling the heigl1t 0f the Walls and proviclecl with a series of tongues engaging intermediate said bar ancl the acljacent face 0f the Wall to which it is secured, the outer face of the Wall t0 which saicl cleat is fastened bearing against the inner face of saicl cleat, as shown and clescribecl.

2. In combination with the end ancl sicle Walls of a b0x, a cleat fasteneol to the encl face of one Wall, a bar having its encl bent ab angles and fastenecl over t-he top ancl bottom edges of the Wall to which saicl cleat is fastened, said bar having ofiset portions which are fastenecl t0 tlae inner face 0f the Wall ancl forming a series 0f loops, a plate extenclinq the height 0f the Walls ancl having anglecl encls securecl to the encls of one of saicl Walls, a series 0f wings projecting frorn 0ne marginal eclge of said plante parallel t0 the ec ge 0f alle wall to which it is fastened und clesignecl t0 engage tl1e loops 0f saicl bar, the 0uter l'ace 0f ehe Wall carrying saicl plate engaging the inner eclge of saicl cleat, a s shown und describecl.
