Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 1, 1909.

Be it known that I, JOHN T. CLAYTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gras Lock-Cocks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in gas lock cocks designed to be used in gas systems where two or more persons have access to the system and it is desired that but one person shall have access to a certain part of said system such for instance as a portion of said system including an individual gas n'ieter.
rihe invention has for its object the production of a gas lock cock adapted to such use and of improved construction and operation, and consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
My invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

In the preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings a suitable casing 1 is provided with suitable pipe fittings 2 and 3 for the purpose of being coupled into a gas system. In casing 1 is a suitable socket adapted to receive and nicely fitthe tapered valve plug 4 which is hollow and is provided with oppositely disposed ports 5. l
At its upper end plug 4 is provided with a handle lever 6 formed integrally therewith. At its lower end plug 4 carries a cylindrical projection 7 having a fiattened side 8 and concentric with said projection, a threaded bolt 9. A locking arm 10 is provided with a projection 11 adapted to enter the lower end of the socket in casing 1, and said arm and projection are provided with an opening 12 having a flattened side 12 and adapted to engage the flattened side S of projection 7 to cause arm 10 to be fixed against rotation relatively to plug 4. Arm 10 is secured in position by means of nut 9 taking over bolt 9. By this construction it will be seen that Patented Mar. 22, 1910n serial No. 525,796.
4 by means of the flattened side S that it will X register with lug 13 when the valve plug 4 is turned to closing position as illustrated in F ig. 2. By this construction it will be seen that when one individualis through using passed through said cock, the cock may be turned to and locked in closing position to exclude others from the use of such gas.
lVhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of my invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction set forth but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a gas lock cock, the combination With a casing having a suitable valve socket therein, of a valve plug fitting said socket and provided with ports; a handle lever formed integral with said plug; a locking lug formed integral with said casing; a cylindrical projection on said plug, provided with-a flattened side; a locking arm having a projection adapted to enter said socket and an opening adapted to lit over said projection; a threaded bolt on said plug; a nut adapted to secure said arm in position; and means for locking said arm and lug together, substantially as described.
2. In a gas lock cock, the combination with a casing having a tapered valve socket extending therethrough, of a tapered valve plug fitting said socket but terminating a short distance from the smaller end thereof; a handle lever formed integral with said plug; a cylindrical projection on the end of said plug and provided with a flattened side; a locking arm having a projection adapted to enter said socket and abut the end of said plug, the said projection and arm being provided with an opening adapted to fit snugly In testimony whereof I have signed my over said plug projection and the said plug name tio this specification in the presence of projection being of a length somewhat less than the length of said opening; a threaded stud on said plug,` projection; and a nut engaging said stud to secure the plug and arm in position, substantially as described.
