Be it known that I, Roiinar HEAD, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, borough of Brookl Yn, county of Kings, and State of New Yor have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Phonograph-Reproducers; and I do hereby declare the following to be u full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to improvements in plionoffrapli repi'oducers, wherein I seek to provi( c an ii'ii i'oved construction adapted for the repro( uction'of sounds which aie free from iarsh metallic tones and grating,r noises, the latter serious objections to Ordinar talking mac iines.

The invention farther consists of a phonograph reproducei' wherein I use a sound box chambered for the reception of a non-metllic diaphragm.
The invention further consists in the employment of a non-metallic diaphragm liaving a rim which imparts weight to the free edge of the diaphragm. said rim also serving in connection with a mica diaphragm as a means for preventing;r the layers from separating or splitting.

This holder 11 is adapted for the reception of u stylus 1Q. in the shape of a pin which is held or confined in said holder by any suitable means, such as the clamp 123 that is represented as a binding screw.

This neck is attached to. or forms a part of the sound box. and it is in communication withsthe chamber i, thereof b an opening 15, the latter beine' provided m one or both walls 0f the sound box, as indicated by full and dotted lines. This neck co )crates with u suitable form of horn B, which may be united to the neck or the latter may he part of the horn.
The two styluses, 10, 1Q, enable the reproducer to be used in connection either with a disk rcord, as C in Fig. 1, or with a cylindrical record, as D in Fig. 3. By adjusting the sound box, A, in the vertical -losition shown in Figs. 1 and 2. the stylus 1Q is imposed on the disk record C to follow the undulations therein, and to he intluenced there by so as to transmit thevibrations to the diaphragm tt. thereby vibrating the latter in the chamber i. and )reducing sound' wares which ttow throu lt the neck 14 into and through thtl horn l.
