To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, IRA W. KENNETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marion, in the county of Grant and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Display-Rack, of which the following is a specification. I

This invention relates generally to display racks, and particularly to one designed for supporting mattresses in position to permit of ready inspection as to quality and size.

The object of the invention is to provide an article of this character that shall be adapted for displaying a large number of mattresses, of difi'erent sizes, and in such manner that thorough examination will be permitted without any labor or inconvenience attending the procedure.

A further object of the invention is without damage to the mattresses to insure their stable and secure suspension, to permit of their being shifted to various positions without danger of becoming disconnected from their supports.

With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a display rack, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a display rack constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the manner of suspending the mattresses. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the mattress supports. Fig. 3 is a detail View of a modified form of mattress clamp.

The rack embodies a bracket comprising two sections of angle iron 1 and 2, of any desired length and secured at their terminals to blocks 3 which in turn are firmly bolted to a wall or other suitable support. The bracket members 1 and 2 are, at appropriate points in their length, provided with orifices 4 and 5, the two series being in vertical aline ment, and each alined pair is engaged by pintles or studs 6 and 7 carried by the inner ends of the supporting arm 8 and brace rod 9 of each one of the suspension devices, which are counterparts of each other, so that a description of one will serve for all. The connection between the outer end of the brace rod and the arm may be elfected in any preferred manner, and in this instance is secured by providing the rod with a hook 10 that projects into the end of the arm, which is preferably constructed from a length of metallic tubing. As the pintles 6 and 7 fit loosely in the orifices 4 and 5, the arm and brace rods will be free to swing through a prescribed arc, and further disconnection of the parts from the members 1 and 2 may easily be effected when desired.

Combined with each arm are two mattress clamps, each comprising, four lazy-tong members, 11, 12, 13 and 14. The members 11 and 12 are orificed at their upper terminals to fit loosely on the arm 8, and are connected at their lower terminals with the upper terminals of the members 13 and 14 by bolts 15 carrying winged nuts 16, by which the series of lazy tong members may be secured against movement relative to each other. The intermediate portions of the members 13 and 14 are pivotally connected by abolt 17 carrying a winged nut 18 to supplement the clamping action of the nuts 16. The lower terminals of the members 13 and 14 are twisted on a quarter turn at 17' to provide surfaces to which are riveted the clamping jaws 18 which are also constructed of lengths of angle iron. In order to cause the clamping jaws automatically to close against the mattress, a coiled spring 19 is provided, the terminals of which are secured around the bolts 15.

Instead of employing the lazy tong arrangement of clamps as above described, that shown in Fig. 3 may be used. This form of clamp consists of two outwardly curved arms 20 which are orificed to fit loosely on the arm 8. The lower ends of the arms carry clamping jaws 21 similar to those first described, and the intermediate portion of the arms are connected by a coiled spring 22 to cause the clamping jaws to grip the mattress.

As shown in Fig. 1, provision is made for suspending six mattresses, but it is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to this number, as it may be increased or diminished as required.

By the manner of suspending the mattresses, they may readily be swung to different angles to permit thorough inspection, and thereby dispense with the labor of lifting and turning as now has to be done in exhibiting these articles.

When a mattress is to be removed from the rack, the brace rod is nnhooked and the mattress clamps are slipped off from the arm 8, being held against detachment from the mattress by the bolt and thumb nuts de scribed. After the clamps are removed and con'ibined with another mattress, the former are again positioned on the arm.

1. A display rack comprising a display arm, clamping members carried by the display arm and each comprising a series of pivotally connected levers, and means mounted on the pivots of the levers to lock the levers against movement whereby the clamps will be held against release from the articles displayed.
