To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS W. GREEN, citizen of the United States, and resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention bottle holders.

In the drawings 1-Figure 1 is a side elevation of a holder constructed in accordance with this invention, showing a bottle as held thereby. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the lines -3-3- in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the holder shown in Fig. 1, the door of the same being thrown back.

The principal objects which the present invention has in view are; to construct a holder which may be locked with holding devices adapted to hold articles of varying sizes, and to grasp the same so firmly as to prevent the withdrawal of the article; to provide a box-like cover which can be opened only by the holder of the key to withdraw the bottle deposited; to simplify the construction.

With these objects in view, the construction shown in the drawings embodies the body portion -1-, which is substantially rectangular in shape, having full top and sides. The forward side is the door -2- suitably hinged as at -3- to the body portion -1. On the side of the box there is provided the projection -6- to receive the lock bolt The lock bolt extends behind the projection when engaging the same. The bottom -8 of the box is provided with an opening sufficiently large to grasp the neck of the article which the device is designed to hold. In the present instance it is shown in a shape substantially rectangular. At four points around this opening are provided the arms -99, which are pivoted to hinged wings -10-10- pro vided to receive them. They are secured to the Wings by means of the pivots 11-11.

These arms are provided with heels -12--12- to as shown. Each arm is provided with a projection -13- sufficiently long to impinge upon the sides of the box to prevent the arm throwing into a position of equilibrium, thus always insuring the arms throwing to a horizontal position when not by an article held therein.

The device shown in the drawings is designed principally for use in holding milk bottles. The shape and size of this character of bottle varies even when graded to a certain carrying capacity. The present invention, however, is made to accommodate a number of diiierent sizes varying, for instance, between the so-called quart bottle through the various grades to the half pint bottle, such as is used for cream. This variation is accommodated by the length of the arms -9-9- which may rest in the position shown in the drawings, or in an inclined position when the encompassed article would be proportionately raised. body portion is substantially as shown in In operation the door is closed at all times except when the device is to be relieved of its contents, when the lock having been thrown off, the door is thrown back to the position shown in Fig. 4, carrying the portion of the bottom which is attached to the door together with the arm 9, which is mounted thereon. The bottle, which is secured between the three arms remaining in engagement therewith is easily drawn out throu -h the front of the holder. The door is then closed and locked in position placing the device in position to re ceive a second bottle. The bottle is inserted from the bottom, merely extending the neck upward until that portion of the neck hav ing the lip roll passes above the ends of the arms -9-9-. These ends immediately fall toward the center in the lip roll, and the bottle is held in position thereby.

Having thus described this invention, what is claimed is l. A bottle holder comprising, a box-like structure having top and sides; a plurality of hinged arms mounted on said box-like structure to yield inwardly to pressure and to assume a rigid position against any outward movement past the horizontal position; a hinged door constituting one of the sides of said box-like structure; a lock for said door.

A bottle holder comprising, a box-like structure having top and sides; a plurality of hinged arms mounted on said box-like structure to yield inwardly to pressure and to assume a rigid position against any outward movement past the horizontal position; suitable devices to prevent the said arms attaining a vertical position; a hinged door constituting one of the sides of said box-like structure; a lock forsaid door.

8. A bottle holder comprising, a box-like structure having top and sides; a plurality of hinged arms mounted on said box-like structure to yield inwardly to pressure and to assume a rigid position against any outward movement past the horizontal position; suitable devices to prevent the said arms attalnmg a vertical posltion; a door constituting one of the sides of said box-like structure having mounted thereon a sufiicient number of the said hinged arms that when removed will permit the lateral withdrawal of the bottle from the box-like structure; a lock for said door.

4. A bottle holder comprising, a box-like structure having top and sides; a plurality of hinged arms mounted on said box-like structure to yield inwardly to pressure and to assume a rigid position against any outward movement past the horizontal position; a door constituting one of the sides of said box-like structure having mounted thereon a sufiicient number of the said hinged arms that when removed will permit the lateral withdrawal of the bottle from the box-like structure; a lock for said door.
