LUGBETIA TORRENCE YOUNG, 015 BED BANK, NEW JERSEY.
BEDCLOTI-IES-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 31, 1909. Serial No. 535,813.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUORETIA Tonnnnon YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing in Red Bank, in the State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedclothes-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof.
'This invention has for its object to provide a device, simple, inexpensive, and easily applied for securely holding bed clothes at the foot of the bed, so as toprevent them from coming out, without requiring attachment to the frame of the bed.
The invention will be more fully explained hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing in which it is illustrated and in which Figure 1 is a partial top view illustrating the application of the device to the bed clothes, the mattress being also shown. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation showing a p0rtion of a bed frame with the mattress thereon, a further step in the application of the fastener being illustrated. Fig. 3 is a top view, similar to Fig. 1, but showing the bed made up.
The improved fastener comprises a strap (6, preferably of strong but light webbing, provided with a buckle Z; or other suitable fastening device and long enough to pass completely around the mattress c, and further provided, in its middle portion, along one side, with buckles d. The latter may be of any suitable kind, but are preferably of the usual loop and stud variety used for stocking supporters, and, like them, are connected by flexible straps e, which may or may not be elastic, with the main strap a. It will be understood that the invention is not concerned with the particular character of the fasteners employed and that they may be of such character, size and number as may be desired.
In applying the bed clothes fastener, the bed clothes, indicated at 7, have their bottom edges brought together and are laid upon the mattress with the bottom edges up from the foot of the mattress somewhat, as shown in Fig. 1. The strap a is then laid upon the mattress and the several fasteners (Z are en gaged with the bed clothes, also as shown in Fig. 1. Then the strap ais drawn down over and under the foot of the mattress, as shown in Fig. 2, and the bed clothes f are thrown back. The ends of the strap are now brought together over the mattress and are buckled or otherwise fastened together, the strap being drawn somewhat tightly around the mattress and therefore holding the bed clothes in place. Finally the bed clothes are turned back over the strap and upon the mattress and the bed is made up in the usual way.
I claim as my invention:
A bed clothes fastener comprising a strap to encircle the mattress and provided with means whereby its ends may be secured together about the mattress, and fasteners secured to the strap at intervals along its middle portion and adapted to engage the bed clothes.
This specification signed and witnessed this 10th day of December, A. D. 1909.
