MOP-WRINGER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I JAMES LEE SIMMoNs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Wringers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to devices for wringing mops and has for its object the provision of a device of the character described in which the bail for carrying the bucket is secured to the wringer operating device so that it is capable of being used as the lever for actuating the wringer-rollers.

To this end my invention consists in mounting the rollers on arms pivotally secured to a lever fulcrumed on the waterbucket and held normally in position so that the rollers are separated and at the ends of the bucket,'the bail being pivotally secured on the pivot of the roller-carrying arms and engaging a projection on the lever when used to actuate the rollers into a wringing position.

My invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated. in the accompan ying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved wringer; Fig. 2, a side view, showing the rollers in their separated position and the bail in position to carry the bucket; Fig. 3, a similar view, showing the position of the rollers and bail in position to wring the mop; Fig. 4:, a detail view of one of the rollers, showing the manner of securing it to the arms; Fig. 5, a detail view of one of the mop-guides; and Fig. 6, a cross-section on the line wm of Fig. 5.

In the drawings similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout all of the views.

A indicates the water-bucket, made preferably of sheet-metal, and, as shown, substantially rectangular in horizontal section, and B the usual foot-piece secured to the sides of the bucket and extending from the front of the bucket.

On each side of the bucket A is secured a curved bar 1 by means of three pins, the pin 2 being in the middle and the pins 3 at each side and spaced apart.

in a normally raised position by means of a spring 6.

7 indicates curved arms pivotally secured together and to lever 4 by means of pins 8 and extending toward the front and rear upwardly between the pins 2 and 3 that serve as guides for said arms when the lever is actuated downwardly, as hereinafter described. The ends of arms 7 are formed with upwardly-extending angular ends 9, between which are mounted the rollers 9 on rods 11. Said rods 11 pass through the rollers 9 and have one end reduced, as shown at 12, and are riveted to the arms 7 at one side of the bucket, while the other end of each of the rods is provided with a reduced and threaded portion 13 to engage a hole in the arm on the other side of the bucket, and is secured to the said arm by means of a nut 14.

15 indicates a bail pivotally secured to pins 8, and when in vertical position to carry the bucket engages lugs or projections 16 on the rearwardly-extending arms 7, and is adapted to swing downwardly so as to engage projections 17 on the ends of levers l, so that when the bail is pushed down wardly by pressing downwardly thereon with the foot the lever 4: is swung downwardly against the resistance of spring 6, and the arms 7 are drawn downwardly, being guided by pins 3, the rollers 9 being thereby drawn together. When the pressure of the foot is released the spring 6 returns the lever to its original position so that the rollers are separated the pin 2 guiding the arms outwardly.

18 indicates mop guides consisting of strips of metal having a central concaved portion 19, parallel with the sides of the bucket and bent as shown at 20 to form angular supports that are secured to the sides of the bucket A, as shown at 21.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In a mop-wringer, in combination with a bucket, levers fulcrumed on the sides of the bucket, arms pivotally secured to the levers, rollers mounted on said arms, the liftingbail pivotally secured to the levers and constructed to engage the levers and form a foot-pedal to actuate the levers and the rollers into a wringing position, and mop-guides consisting of angular strips of metal secured to the inner sides of the bucket between the bucket, arms pivotally secured to the lever 25 rollers and having their middle portions I parallel with the sides of the bucket and formed concave, substantially as shown and described.

2. A mop-Wringer comprising a bucket, levers fulcrumed on the sides of the bucket and having laterally-extending projections on their ends, pins secured to the sides of the bucket, arms pivotally secured to the lever and slidably mounted between said pins, rollers mounted between said arms, a bail pivotally secured to said arms and lever, and lugs on the rearwardly-extending arms to engage said bail when in an upright position and used to carry the bucket, said bail engaging the projection on the lever when in a reclining position to form a foot-lever for actuating the roller-carrying arms downwardly, substantially as shown and described.

A mop-wringer comprising a bucket, levers fulcrnmed on the sides of the bucket and having laterally-extending projections on their ends, pins secured to the sides of the and slida-bly mounted between said pins, rollers mounted between said arms, a bail pivotally secured to said arms and lever, lugs on the rearwardly-extending arms to engage said bail when in an upright position and used to carry the bucket, said bail engaging the projection on the lever when in a reclining position to form a foot-lever for actuating the roller-carrying arms downwardly, and mop-guides consisting of angular strips of metal secured to the inner sides of the bucket between the rollers and having their middle portions parallel to the sides of the bucket and formed concave, snbstantially as shown and described.
