Be it known that l, OT'ro l. bflonnns, a citizen of lthe United States, residing at New Decatur, in the county of Morgan and State of Alabama. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ink Blotters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. ,0 'lhis invention relates to improvements in ink blotters and more particularly to one adapted to be attached to the hand and especially designed for the use of bookkeepers. The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and practical device of this character which when applied to the hand will not restrict the free use of the lingers and which, in addition to its use as a blotter, may be also used as a rule or straight edge.

lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 'l is a perspective'view of the invention; Fig. Q is a side or edge view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a detail section taken on the plane indicated by the line 3-3 in Fig. 2.

i0 The invention comprises a body member or plate 1 preferably in the form of a thin piece of wood but which may be made of metal or other material.

2 denotes a piece of blotting paper which extends across the bottom face of the plate l and has its ends 3 folded around the outer and inner edges of the body plate 1 and clamped against the top face of the same by a clamping plate t. The latter is preferably constructed of a plate or sheet of metal and is of slightly greater size than the body plate l so that the forward or outer edge 5' of the clamping plate will extend beyond the adjacent edge of the body plate to form a straight edge or rule. The parts 1, l may be fastened together by any suitable detachable fastening so that they will clamp the ends 3 of the blotter between them. As illustrated, a single bolt G is preferably employed. This bolt has its head countersunk in the body plate l and its projecting threaded end engaged by a suitable nut 7 which when tightened against the clamping and rule plate 4 will securely clamp the ends of the blotter. To prevent the parts l, 4

from turning with respect to each other on the bolts G, the inner or right hand side edge of the plate l is turned downwardly to provide a right` angular stop flange 8, as shown more clearly in Fig. 3.

The device may be attached to the palm of the hand, preferably the left hand, by any suitable means. As illustrated, however, I provide a finger band or strap 9 and a similar wrist band or strap 10. These bands arc preferably made of elastic and they are attached to the plate 4 by passing them through parallel slots 11 formed in said plate, as will be understood on reference to Figs. l and 3. The front ends of the bands 9, l() arc adj ustably connected by clasps 12 which may be of any form and construction.

The use of the invention will be readily understood on reference to Fig. l, in which it is shown applied to the left hand, the latter-being indicated in dotted lines. Vhcn so applied the lingers of the left hand are free to permit the user to readily turn the pages of a book and to perform other work necessitating free movement of the fingers. lVhen the device is thus applied to the hand the blotting surface 2 is always convenient and when the device is used by a bookkeeper in posting the edge 5 may be conveniently used as a rule or straight edge.

It will be noted that the simple construction of the device enables it to be produced at a small cost and renders it strong and durable. Furthermore, itis easy to apply to and remove from the hand and the blotters may be quickly and easily replaced in it.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:

l. A device of the character described comprising a body plate, a clamping plate having one edge extended to provide a stop, said clamping plate being formed with pairs of slots, finger and wrist engaging bands arranged in the slots of said clamping plate, a bolt detachably clamping said plates together and adjustable fastenings for the free ends of said bands.

The herein described device comprising a rectangular body l, a rectangular clamping plate of greater width than the body and having its inner end bent downwardly at right angles to provide a stop flange, and its opposite outer edge projecting beyond the body to form a straight edge, said clamping plate being formed with pairs of slots extending longitudinally of the plate, said clamping plate, and a bolt detachably 10 linger and wrist engaging bands arranged uniting the body and clamping plates.
