EMMA C. SICKELS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MASSAGE APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 22, 1910.
Application filed December 30,- 1907. Serial No. 408,596.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMA C. SICKELS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Massage Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention pertains to an improved massage apparatus, the construction and advantages of which will be hereinafter set forth, reference being had to the annexed drawings, wherein:
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional View of the device, taken on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 an end view thereof.-
The main object of the present invention is to provide a massage apparatus in which water may be applied directly to the surface to be treated and the surface may be massaged thereby prior to and after the application of the water thereto.
Referrin to the drawings, 0 denotes a centrally-disposed mouth-piece, connected with a pipe A, through whicha cleansing fluid is conveyed to the mouth-piece. Secured to the mouth-piece is a disk-like member P, the outer edge of which is rounded and lies in a plane coincident with the end of the mouth-piece O. A series of rods Q, are arranged between the outer wall of the mouth-piece and the inturned portion of the disk P, the rods carr ing a series of balls R and, if desirable, rol ers S, the rollers lying to each side of the balls, as clearly indicated in both figures.
As will be appreciated, fluid passing in throu h the mouth-piece will be discharged direct y against the "skin, and as the device is moved over the skin some of the balls or those in advance of the mouth-piece will act upon the skin, prior to the direct application of the water thereto, and the other balls will act upon such surface after the water has been applied directly thereto, the water passing out through the open end of the mouth-piece without obstruction or interference by the balls or the like. It will thus be seen that the skin may be massaged prior to the application of the water thereto and after the application of the water.
Having thus described my invention, what I I claim is:
1. In a massage apparatus, the combination of a mouth-piece; means for passing Water therethrough; and a plurality of massaging members formed of substantially unyielding material surrounding said mouthpiece.
2. In a massage apparatus, the combination of a mouth-piece having an unobstructed opening for the passage of water therethrough and directly to the surface to be treated; and a plurality of movable members mounted outside of the mouth-piece and adapted to contactwith the surface to be massaged.
3. In a massage apparatus, the combination of a mouth-piece; a disk-shaped member mounted thereon and extending outwardly therefrom; a plurality of rods mounted between the edge of the disk and the outer face of the mouth-piece; and a movable member mounted upon each of said rods.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMMA C. SICKELS.
