v and GEORGE E. MYERS, citizens of the United btates, residing at Cheshire, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Articles of Furniture, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a single structure, which by adjustment of its parts can be utilized either as a seat or as a table with an adjustable top.

In the drawings-Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a top elevation thereof. Fig. 4: is a section on the line B-B of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a section on the line B-B of Fig. 1 showing the device in use as a seat. Figs. 6 and 7 are sections on the line BB of Fig. 1 showing the device in use as a table and the adjustable feature of the top. Figs. 8 and 9 are detail views showing the construction of the swiveled eye.

Referring more specifically to the drawing j the two side uprights or standard supports 1 are each formed of two lower members a j and two upper members a, each pair of members as at a a forming a leg support,

In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawings eyes (Z d are swiveled j and mounted on the inner sides of the block members 4., at. These arms are free to move lengthwise through the eyes in order to permit the member 0 to rest upon the tops of the side uprights when the member 6 is used as a table top. The swivel mounting of the eyes which We have illustrated in the drawings contemplates recessing the inner sides of the block members slightly and fixing the plates 9 over said recesses, the shanks of the eyes passing through openings in said plate 9 and having secured to them behind the plate a bearing washer g.

It is evident that the construction of the various parts of the device can be altered, particularly as to the shape and location of the U-shaped bracket, and the method of supporting the member 0 thereon. It is our desire not to limit ourselves to the specific construction shown as it is apparent that in place of the bracket independent arms could be utilized and that these arms could project down into the slots in the side uprights. There is, however, one advantage in using the U-shaped bracket, and that is that by this construction the arms are bound to move together and thus obviate any cramping tendency when the member 0 is moved.

e claim as our invention 1. A combination article of furniture comprising side uprights having normally horizontal alining table supports at the top thereof, a seat member extending between and connecting said uprights, swivel mounted eyes positioned at opposite inside points upon said uprights, a U-shaped bracket having a base and side arms, said arms being loosely mounted within said eyes and slidable therein said arms being of equal predetermined lengths and provided with knobs at their free ends to prevent complete withdrawal therefrom, supporting stops carried at opposite points upon each side upright and adapted to be engaged by the arms limiting the movement thereof, a movable flat member pivoted to the base of said bracket and adapted to completely rest upon said table supports and slidably movable thereon in a horizontal position, and in either direction to swing to either outer side of said uprights forming the back for said seat member.

2. A combination article of furniture comprising side uprights, a seat member extending between and connecting said side uprights, a table top, a bracket on which said top is pivoted, said bracket having integral side arms, swiveled guide supports for the free ends of said arms mounted in said side uprights, said arms being of equal predetermined lengths and freely movable lengthwise through said guides whereby said top is flatly slidable to any horizontal position upon the top and projects to any distance beyond either top edge of said side uprights and adaptable as the back of said seat member at either outside of the uprights.

A combination article of furniture comprising side supports, a cut away portion provided in said supports, block members po- I sitioned in said cutaway portions, opposite j r l i connecting bars secured to the outer sides of said block members and forming a seat memher, a table top, a U-shaped bracket said top pivoted on said bracket, integral side arms of equal predetermined lengths provided upon said bracket, swiveled guide supports for the free ends of said arms mounted in said block members, said arms freely movable lengthwise through said guides whereby said top is flatly slidable in both directions upon the end supports and adapted to swing to either outer side of said supports forming the back for said seat member.
