Specification of Letters Patent.

' To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT I. Donna, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.

My'invention relates to improvements in toys and has for its object the production of a metal shell or case, preferably tapering, and having a glass cover on one end thereof, and preferably having depressions or pock ets in the sides of said case, in which case a globule of quick-silver is inclosed, which, when the case is turned or shaken, is adapted to be separated into small globules against the Glass cover thereon.

This invention is hereinafter fully set forth and explained and illustrated in the accompanying1 drawings in which:

Figure 1 is a top or plan view of one end of my device. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof7 on the line aff-m in Fig. l.

In constructing my improved toy, I preferably make it of thin metal, spun into conical shape, with the walls thereof flaring outwardly from one end A thereof, which is formed into a rounded closed end, while the flaring opposite end B is closed by a glass plate C, and in the side walls of the case I preferably make internal projections I), and around the end B thereof I preferably make a. series of peripheral pockets E, which may be numbered if desired. Prior to closing the end B with the glass plate C, I place in this conical structure a globule of quick silver I?, which when the case 1s grasped by the hand and turned sidewise is broken up into numerous small globules, which run r downward against the glass C and into the pockets E, and the movement of the device by turning and shaking it constantly changes the globules into larger and smaller ones in the pockets E, and by manipulation of the device all of the globules may be concen trated into one large globule in one of the pockets E.

I have thus shown and described a preferred form of construction of my device. I can, however, make it in different shapes, and with or without the internal projections l), and the pockets E, without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Therefore having shown and described my invention so as to enable others to construct and utilize the same, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is;

il.. A toy comprising an integral case, a glass plate closing one end of said ease, peripheral pockets formed in said case adjacent to the glass end, and a globule of quicksilver inclosed in said case, substantially as set forth.

2. A toy comprising an integral tapering case, having one end sealed, and the other open, internal projections in the sides thereof, peripheral pockets adjacent to the open end thereof, a glass closing the open end of said case, and a globule of quick-silver inclosed therein, substantially as set forth.
