Description

To all whom 'it 'ma/y conservi."
Be itlmown that I, JOHNy J. AGUTTER, a
y citizen of the United States of America, and
a resident of the city of Seattle,`in the county of King and State of' Washington, have in-r vented certain ynew and ,usefuL Improvements in Metering Panel-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to switch boards, having more particular reference to the type commonly known as metering panel boards and has for its primary object t-o provide a lconstruction vof the above. type involving connecting means of novel construction and arrangement for permitting of changes in the distribution and metering of the electric current, being readily made.
lVith this and other objects in view, to be referred to as my description progresses. my
more particularly thel construction and ar rangement of any of myadjustable connections, and Fig. 5 is a Vsimilar view taken at right angles to FiO. 1l.
`In carrying ou'tD my invention, 'I provide a panel board or base lof suitable' material on which are arranged the conducting members comprising distributing bars- 2 and meter bars 3, the formerlciossing the latter and being elevated therefrom and'being connected with the meters (not shown) in the usual manner.
Distributing bars Qare connected in any desired manner with the usual fuses 4 and switches 5, provided in the light circuits, not
shown.
Reference numeral. 6 indicates connections of novel construction adjustably supported on distributing bars 2 to ermit of eleetripal connections being made etween them and any of the Ameter bars 3, whereby any circuit or combinations of circuits can be connected'with any meter, as is well understood. Connections G comprise contact members 7 and S liaving connections 9 therebetween.

Patented Fei, 1, 191e.
Gontaetinembers 7 aie slotted to receivebars 2 and provided at their lower edgeswith inturned flanges or lips 7" adapted to. engage thereunder and thereby prevent removal of the connection, see Fig. 5.
Contact members 8 are preferably in the tegral with the lowerend portions of coniiectioiis 9, which latter. are preferably lrigid form of angularly disposed lugsforined inc and depend from ContactI members 7, being,
as now considered removably secured thereto, as by screws l0. I c.
Fastening means, as 11, consisting of screws threaded in meter'bars 3, are provided for securing contact members S,wliich are apertured to receive the saine. thereto.
Inasinuch as the 4heads of screws ll, project from the upper faces of the meter bars `carrying the saine, provision must obviously ,be made to permit of Contact members S clearing the saine during shifting-ot the connections G. Therefore, I form the slots of contact members 7 of such dimensions that the connections 6 can be swung slightly on their supporting bars. Shoes '12, arranged incontaet members 7 and engaged by suitable adjusting means, asscrews' .14,
threaded in contact members 7 ,are provided' to enable these .coli-tact members being noi'- nially held in a firm manner on the distributing bars. Y'
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of America, is: 5
l. A switch board comprising a base, two' series of conductors on said base spaced from and crossing one another, contact members slidably supportedv on the conductors of one series, other Contact members carried by said -lirst named Contact' member, 'and means onv said other series of conductors for securing-c;I

supported loosely ou the conductors of one' i series for sliding thereon, means carried by v said contact members forV securing the same in arigid manner on said last named con' ductors, and other contact members' arranged to engage the. conductors of said other series and having rigid connection Contact members, adjusting means threaded in said contact members and engaged with in'rm engagement with said last named series of conductors, apertured contact members carried by said first named Contact members, land-screws threaded inthe conductors of said other series adapted to be engaged inthe apertures of Said last named .contact members for securing the same thereto.
5. A vswitch board comprising a base, two series of ,conductors on said base spaced from andcross'ing one another, Contact members supported loosely on the conductors of one vseries for sliding thereon, contact shoesl freely supported in said 'contact *membersy said shoes for holding said contact members and bearing on the adjacent conductors,
'means adjustably supported on said contact members and engaged With said shoes for holding said contact, members in firm en-l gagement With said conductors, apertured vcontact members, rigid connections depend` ing from said first named contact members and` carrying said apertured contact memy bers, 4and securing means carried byv the conductors of said other series arranged for engagementin the apertures of said lastnamed Contact members.V
6. A switch board comprising a base, two
`series of conductors on said base spaced. from 4 and `crossing one another, and means for' connecting the conductors of one series with those `of the other comprising slidable con tact members held on the conductors of one series against removal therefrom, and other contact members carried by said iirst named contact members and being removably secured to the conductors of the other series.
Signed at Seattle, Washington this 15 day of May 1909.
