A CORPORATION or PENNSYLVANIA DISTRIBUTING-BOARD.
pecification of ietters Patent.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Louvre H. NIELSEN and J OHN F. BARNARD, citizens of the United States, residing at West Liberty and Allegheny, respectively, in the county of Alic i fuse and switch ,panels'or similar. apparatus for making electrical connections and dis-' I tribution and has for its object to provide the necessity of removal of any of the sur-' 20. roundingframin" or disturbance of the per-.
a construction which may be permanently installed in a building or elsewhere and used for making the various connections, removals, substitutions, or other changes, without mancnt installatlon. We secure thesevadvantages by means of a base board of any suitable for or design adapted for attachwith a removable.
y. swinging or bodily removing it ac I cess may be had to the back,side or ends of rounding framing" or woodwork, and our in- Y the base or bases for any purpose desired.
Ordinarily the interior or concealed cavities of apparatus of this'character is diflicult or impossible of inspection o'r'entrance, and usually requires the removal of the sur-' vention is designed to obviate these difiiculties and provide a simple, convenient, and
' compact construction of full, capacity as to circuits and whereby a continuous face is secured.
' In the drawings Figure l is a face View of one form of our improved panel. Figs. 2
. and 3 are'cross sections on the lines II, II,
- and 111,111, respectively.
In the drawings we have shown a' do'uble panel board providing a base at each side with a middle movable portion, lthough it.
will be understood that the de' gn may be changed to suit local requirements or that the invention may be utilized in various ways to. suit the construction, capacity, wiring, circuits, etc.
In therfo m shown we progvide an outer casing 2 of s eet metal, or other 'suitable'rna-- ,terial, in box form, hav ng inwardly extend ing front walls '3, the box creasing being adapted to be set within a suitable wall cavity and surrounded by any'desired finishing,
as the panel molding 4 extending over the inner edges of walls 3. p
5 is a transverse bracket, two or more of which are preferably provided, secured to Patented Aug. 23, 1910. I
the back wall or other portion of casing 2 having terminals 6, 7, located outwardly beyond the back wall of the casing a sufiicient distance to provide the desired interior clearance and storage space or capacity and projectinginwardly as shown. Upon these bracket terminals are mounted the panel bases 8, 8, of porcelain, slate, or other suitable non -conducting material, extending lengthwise of the apparatus andsecured to the brackets by bolts 9 or other suitable means. -At"each 'side edge the bases 8 are 1 preferably provided with outwardly extendmg edge extensions 10 coinciding at their inner faces with the inner edges offront walls 3 while-the ends of the bases 8 are similarly bounded by like extensions, and
by merely openingthe front portion, 15 as I described.
Z), 7), are the main or trunk line conductors connected by the usual switch 0 with the terminals of'a supply circuit, and the fuses d establish branch connections through sockets '0 and f from conductors b to the branch circuits, as shown.
-The advantages of the invention will be "readily appreciated by all those familiar with this class of apparatus. A particular feature of. advantagein the movable front'is that switches may be mounted on the back of the movable front havingtheir operating parts extending through to the front, thereby preventing all danger of cominginto contact with live parts 111 operating any controlling devices used. "It is simple and cheap in construction, readily accessible, may be modified 1n deslgn or in various ways by the skilled. mechanic, and avoids the usual objections attendant on making connections in concealed wiring.
What we claim is- 1..v A distributingboard provided with a permanent-base at each side having terminal attaching devices, and an intervening space, a movable portion mounted upon one said bases arranged to close or open said s ace and having terminal attachingdev1ces for flexible connection with the permanent attaching devices of each base, and a surrounding casing inclosing said parts, substantially as set forth.
2. A'distributing board provided with a permanent base at each side having terminal attaching devices, and an intervening space, a movable portion mounted upon one of said bases arranged to close or open said space and having terminal attaching. .de-
vices for flexible connection with the perma- I nent attaching devices of each base,'trunk line conductors connected with the terminal attaching devices of the pcrzranent bases, and means for establishing circuit connections therewith located between the permanent bases, substantially asset forth.
3. Ina distributing board, the combination of a casing provided with supportifg brackets, 21 permanent base secured on said brackets, and a movable portionhinged on said brackets and provided with attaching devices for wiring with the base, substantially asset forth. I a. In a distributing board, the combina- 'tion of a casing provided with supporting brackets, permanent bases secured within the casing on said brackets, and a movable.
vided with attachingv devices for wiring portion hinged on said brackets and prowith the base, substantially as set forth.
In a distributingboard, the combines).
tion of a casing provided withsupporting brackets, permanent circuit bases provided;
with fixed terminal fuse devices and amain' -e. switch base securedto said brackets, anda I middle movable portion hinged to said brackets at one side and provided withattaching devices for Wiring with the circuit bases, substantially as set forth.
6. In a distributing board, the combination ofv a casing provided with outwardly spaced inwardly extending porting brackets mounted within the casing, permanent circuit bases secured within the casing on said brackets provided with fixed front walls, supterminal fuse devices, outwardly extending terminal walls therefor coinciding with the front walls, and a movable portion hinged to said brackets at one side'and provided with attaching devices for wiring with'the circuit bases, substantially as set forth.
"conductor and fixed laterally arranged at taching devices, of a relatively movable portion provided with attaching ,devices for" flexibly wiring with the attaching devices of the bases, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we afiix four signa tures in presence of two witnesses;
. LUDVIG H. NIELSEN.
JOHN F. BARNARD.
