To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JULEs F. J AQUET, a citizen of the United States, residing at I-Iyattsville, in the county of Prince George and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metallic Trellises, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to trellises and more particularly to metallic trellises, and has for its object the provision of a simple and cheap device of this character which may be easily assembled and which will be very durable.

In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification and in which like numeral references are used to designate like parts throughout the same, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my trellis. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the members forming my trellis. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view of one end of one of the uprights employed in my trellis.

In the drawings, 1 designates a plurality of inverted U-shaped uprights connected by the horizontally arranged members 2, and form the trellis as a whole, as shown in Fig. 1. Each of the uprights 1 comprises the spaced sides 3, being bent at spaced intervals to form the looped portions 4:- The sides 3 extend at their upper portions in wardly and upwardly to form the reduced curved portion 5. The lower extremities of the member or upright l is bent as shown at 6, reference being had to Fig. 3, and the bent portion 6 is embedded in concrete or any other suitable plastic material for forming the pointed ends 7. The upright 1 has its lower portion offset as at 8, whereby the plastic end 7 may be readily forced into tfhe soil, as by applying pressure with the eet.

Each of the horizontally arranged members 2 comprises a looped end 9 and a bent end 10, the said bent end 10 having a plurality of bent portions 11 thereon, for a reason hereinafter to be described.

In the assembling of my trellis I place a plurality of the uprights 1 at suitably spaced intervals apart and place the looped end 9 of the members 2 over the reduced portion 5 and then insert the bent end 10 within the reduced portion 5 above and in contact with the looped end 9 of the member 2 arranged forwardly thereof. By referring to Fig. 2 it will be obvious that the reduced portion 5 fits within one of the bent portions 11 upon the resilient end 10 of the member 2 and thata very firm and simple union is thus obtained.

The bent portions t upon the sides 3 of the uprights 1 serve as irregularities to which the vines or the like may readily cling to, and if desired cord or the like may be secured to the bent portions 4 for aiding in the support of the vines.

Having fully described my invention, I

claim 1. A trellis of the character described, comprising a plurality of uprights having reduced portions, members connecting said uprights and having portions adapted to contain said reduced portions, said members being further provided with portions adapted to be inserted within said reduced portions of said uprights.

2. A trellis of the character described, comprising a plurality of uprights, each of said uprights having a reduced portion, a plurality of members connecting said reduced portion of each of said uprights, each of said members having a portion adapted to contain said reduced portion, and having a portion adapted to be inserted within the reduced portion of each successive upright.

3. A trellis of the character described, comprising a plurality of uprights, each of said uprights having a reduced portion, a plurality of members arranged in end to end relation with each other and adapted to unite said uprights each to the other, each of said members having a looped end and a bent end, the looped end of one of said members being adapted to contain said reduced portion of said upright, and the bent end of the similar connecting member arranged forwardly thereof being adapted to be inserted within said reduced portion above and in contact with said looped end.

A trellis of the character described, comprising a plurality of uprights, each of said uprights having reduced portions, a plurality of members arranged in end to end relation to each other and adapted to unite said uprights each to the other, each of said members having a looped end and a bent end, the looped end of one of said members being adapted to contain said reducedportion of said upright, and the bent end of the similar connectin member arranged forwardly thereof belng adapted to be inserted within said reduced portion above said looped end, and means for normally locking said bent end to said reduced portion of said upright.

A trellis of the character described, comprising a plurality of uprights, each of said uprights having spaced sides, the upper portions of said spaced sides being bent inwardly to form a ring-like reduced portion, a plurality of connecting members arranged in end to end relation to each other, each of said connecting members having one end 1 thereof bent to form a loop and the other end thereof bent rearwardly, the looped end of one of said connecting members being adapted to fit over said reduced portion of said upright, and the bent end of the similar connecting member arranged forwardly thereof being adapted to be inserted Within said reduced portion above said looped end, and said bent end being provided with bent portions for normally locking the same with said reduced portion.
