PHORTABLEV TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent. I
Patented Jan. 18, 1910.
Application filed December 19, 1908. Serial No. 468,373.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAMILLA H. MERCER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Vinton, in the county of Plumas and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Portable Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to portable tables designed for the purpose of conveying table ware and food from the kitchen to the dining room and for similar purposes, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a table mounted on casters and provided with trays, compartments and a slidable top, whereby the articles necessary for a dining table may be conveyed to and from the dining room by pushing the table upon its casters.
Another object of the invention is to provide a portable table having a sink between the legs thereof for containing hot water to wash the dishes and a movable top which may be swung out of the way for giving access to the Various articles underneath the table top.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation and artial section of a portable table made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same, showing in dotted lines the position of the table top when it is swung to one side to give access to the interior of the table.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1' designates the legs of the table mounted upon suitable casters 2 by means of which the table may be moved about from place to place. A shelf 3 is supported between the legs upon suitable brackets 4:, and above the shelf 3 upon opposite sides are railings 5 designed to prevent articles placed upon.
' table upon cross bars 10, said trays having downwardly bent rear edges 11 which engage the cross bars 10 and permit thetrays to be readily removed therefrom. The top 13 of the table is provided with end strips .14 to prevent the warping of the table top, and secured to the upper side of said table top is a railing 15, said railing being supported by means of brackets 16. The table top 13 is slidably mounted upon the table. A pivoted link 17 connected underneath the table top to a bracket 18 is pivoted at its opposite end in a plate 19 secured to one of the table legs 1. A pair of links.20 pivotally connected together at 21 are hinged at their ends under the table top to brackets 22 and to one of the legs at 23. An'auxiliary leg 24 is pivotally connected to, a bracket '25 under the table top, said leg when not in use being connected to a hook 26 on one of the legs 1. I
The operation of my invention may be briefly described as follows: Knives, forks and spoons may be placed in the trays 9. The plates, dishes and the articles desired to be kept warm may be placed in the sink 6. Dishes and food may be placed upon the table top 13.v The table may then be moved from the kitchen to the dining room and may be used as a sideboard, from which the food and dishes maybe taken and placed upon the table. After the dinner is over,
the dishes may be placed in the sink 6, and
the table may be moved back into the kitchen, where the dishes in the sink may be covered with hot water for cleansing purposes.
From the foregoing, it will be obvious that a portable table made in accordance with my invention may be used to advantage in hotels, restaurants and private houses and that a large number of dishes and table furniture may be moved about from place to place quickly and noiselessly without danger of breakage.
I claim The herein described portable table comprising legs, a top supported upon the legs and movable laterally thereupon, links pivotally connected together and pivoted to brackets on the legs and top, a link pivoted at one end upon the underside of the table top and having the other end piVota-lly and detachably connected With one of the legs, an auxiliary leg pivoted to a bracket under the table top for supporting the same When extended, and a metal sink connected to the legs and provided with an outlet pipe.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
OAMILLA H. MERCER.
