- STEAM-GENERATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed 'MayQO, 1908. Serial No. 433,817.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Tensor VIGI-IROWSKI, a subject of the Czar ofRussia, and a resident of the city. of New York, borough. of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Steam-Generator, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to steam generators, and has for its object to construct a device of this character withafiat rectangular compartment disposed directly over the furnace, the said compartment being partitioned, with a communication in the partition, one of the subdivisions of the compartment being adapted to be used as a boiler, and the other subdivision being adapted to be used as a superheater, there being a steam dome in communication with the superheater and a water supply in communication with the boiler, the boiler being disposed directly over the furnace and the superheater being disposed over the fiue, which has a continuation which is disposed in the steam dome. A valve is provided in the communication between the superheater and the steam dome.
In this specification I will describe my preferred form of the invention, but I do not limit myself thereto, as I consider myself to be entitled to all forms and embodiments of the invention which may be held to fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, with the top of the compartment 5 removed.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that a furnace 1, of the usual type, is provided with a grate 2, and that a horizontal flue 3 communicates with the furnace and has an upwardly extending opening in the frame 4:, which forms the upper wall of the flue for a considerable distance. To this frame and to the frame of the furnace 1, is secured a rectangular compartment 5, which has its bottom 6, directly over the furnace 1 and over theflue for a considerable distance. The compartment 5 has a partition 7 therein, there being a com- Patented Jan. 18,1910.
munication 8 in this partition. The subdivlslon 9, of the compartment 5, is directly over the furnace, and this compartment is adapted. to be used as a boiler, there being a.
means 10 for supplying water to this compartment, and the communication 8 in the partition 7 being adapted to permit the steam to flow into the other subdivision 11 of the flue 3 and being. adapted to be used as a superheater.
To the frame 4 is secured a steam dome 12, which has a continuation 13 of the fine 3 disposed therein; The steam dome 12 is also in communication with the superheater 11 by means of the pipe connection 14 in which there is a valve 15. The steam dome has a steam indicator 16 and an outlet pipe 17 with a valve 18 which may also be supplied with a safety valve.
The top of the compartment 5 may be constructed with upwardly extending ribs 19 to afford greater resisting power to the steam pressure.
The frame 4 may be supported by any suitable means, as shown in the drawings by supporting frame members 20.
In using my invention, the subdivision 9 of the compartment 5 is supplied with water, the engineer. by the operation of a pump in connection with the pipe or means 10, being able to limit the amount of water which flows into the subdivision, so that it will not flow through the communication 8, and the fire is then made in the furnace 1 on the grate 2, when the temperature of the water in the sub-division 9 rises until the water vaporizes, when the steam will flow through the communication 8 into the subdivision 11 where it will be dried and heated, when it will flow through the pipe 14 into the steam dome 12, to remain until it is permitted to flow through the outlet pipe 17 to the mechanism which is to be operated by the steam pressure. The valve 15 is provided so that the steam in thesteam dome 12 may. be utilpartment with relatively low side walls disposed above the furnace, a vertical. partition dividing the compartment into a boiler and super-heater, a steam dome, a flue for the furnace disposed in close proximity to the steam dome, a communicating means in the partition leading from the boiler to the superheater, and a communicating means leading from the superheater to the steam dome.
2. In a steam generator, a furnace, a compartment with relatively low side walls disposed above the furnace, a vertical partition dividing the compartment into a boiler and a superheater, a steam dome, a fine for the furnace disposed in close proximity to the steam dome, the flue passing through the steam dome, a communicating means in the partition leading from the dome to the superheater, and a communicating means leading from the superheater to the steam dome.
3. In a steam generator, a furnace, a flue, a compartment disposed over the furnace and also over the flue, a partition in the compartment, a communication in the partition, a steam dome, a communication between the compartment and the steam dome, and a continuation of the flue which is disposed in the steam dome.
4:. In a steam generator, a furnace, a flue, a plate disposed over the furnace and also over the flue, the plate forming the bottom of a compartment, a partition in the compartment, a communication in the partition, one of the subdivisions of the compartment being adapted to be used as a boiler, the other subdivision of the compartment being adapted to be used as a super-heater, a steam dome, a communication between one of the subdivisions of the compartment and the steam dome, a communication between the other subdivision of the compartment and means for supplying water thereto, and a continuation of the flue which is disposed in the steam dome.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
IGNAOY VVICI'IROIVSKI.
