To all whom it ma/y concern Be it known that I, MICHAEL L. MCGUIRE,

' of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Collar, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a collar of the classforming the subject-matter of my prior patent No. 686,323, and has for its object the production of means, which augments the strength and durability of the upper end of the collar, and facilitates the making of a tight joint around the pipe passing therethrough, and to this end the invention consists in the combinations and structures hereinafter set forth and claimed.

In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing,-in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views. 1

This collar consists of a main shell, a sleeve 1, and a calking ring 2. Said main shell of the collar comprises a base 3 having an upturned tubular part 4, and anipple 5 havin its lower end adjustably mounted on the tu ular part 4, and its upper end provided with a peripheral shoulder 6 spaced apart from the top edge of said nipple, such top edge being deflected outwardly forming a second peripheral shoulder 7 and also a groove 8 in the internal face of the nipple. The base 3 and nipple 5 are connected together by a joint 9 arranged at an angle thereto, and constructed and operating in the same manner as the similar joint set forth in my aforesaid patent, and either the base, or the nipple, may be revoluble about the axis .of such joint for adjusting the collar relatively to the pitch of the roof to be provided therewith.

The sleeve 1 encircles and reinforces the upper end of the nipple 5 below the upper edge thereof and is prevented from movement endwise thereon in reverse directions by the shoulders 6 and 7, the lower edge of the sleeve being engaged with the shoulder 6, and the upper part of such sleeve having a groove 10 formed therein which recelves 1 inwardly the outwardly-deflected top edge of the nipple 5. In the use of my collar, the upper part of the calking ring is bent downwardly and against the pipe 15, and forms a tight joint between the collar and the pipe.

To those skilled in the art, derstood that the sleeve 1 adds greatly to the rigidity and durability of the upper end of my collar, and also facilitates the practical securement of the calking ring to such collar, and that the described construction of the upper end of the nipple and the sleeve permits of the securement of the sleeve to the nipple at minimum expense and in a substantial manner, which also affords means, as the groove 8, for receiving the bent over upper part of the calking ring.

What I claim is 1.
