URINAL.
Specification ofLet-ters Patent. I
Patented Jan. 18, 1910.
Application filed August 9, 1905. Serial No. 273.333.
To (1 whom. it may concern:
lie it known that I, ll naymn- J. J. Bow- MAN, a citizen of the United States. and a resident of Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of .\cw Jersey, have. invented cerlain novel and useful l1nprovemcnts in Urinals, of which the followil'ig is a. specification.
My invention relates to certain novel and useful. improven'ients in urinals, and in the present instance I aim to provide an article of the class described which will possess many sanitary advantages and one which will also embrace the desired features of convenience, and economy of installation.
lVith these and other ends of a similar nature in View my invention consistsin the construction, combination and arrangement, of parts set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, like eharactors of reference indicate like parts in all the views; andd igure l is a perspective view of an article embodying my improve ments; Fig. 9, is a side view partly in elevation and partly in section; Fig. 3 is a top plan View.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the letter A indicates a stall formed of a desired material, possessing sanitary features, such as porcelain. The stall is ynovidetl with the usual vertically disposed depression or hollow 5 curving outward at the bottom, as at t), and having a drain 7, arranged over the waste conduit 8. The outer vertical face edges of the stall are arranged to project slightly inward, such edges being in the nature of beads or ribs which extend down to and then continue horizontally along the inner edge of the front plat form or base 10, as at 11., the bead being from one vertical side down to the base, and along the other vertical edge of the stall.
As will be particularly seen by re tor-once to Fig; .2. the horizontal portion 1.1 of the head or rib projects in a shelflike manner inward of the floor of the stall above the drain, thereby forming an antnsplashmg means.
The construction of the base integral with the body of the stall, and the formation of the same forms an important teatnre of my invention. Heretofore in articles or t is l character the base has been made separate from the body o t the stall and was cemented or otherwise secured in position. After such .1 stall has been in usev for some time the base pulls or works away from the body portion by the cracking of the cement and the sanitan usefulness: of the article is impaired.
My improved stall having; the base integral with the body portion may be asily and quickly set in place with the upper edge of the base approximately flush with the ground line. as is shown at X in Fig. 2. Above the head or rib '11, the base is formed with a slight groove or depression inclined toward the drain to convey any foreign matter falling thereon to the drain.
My improved stall may be readily positioned in a wall or the like with the base embedded in the ground, and when installed requires but little cleaning and attention. it may be flushed in any ordinary and Well known manner.
Whatv l claim is:
'1. An article of the class described, having a vertically recessed or hollow body portion, the said hollow body portion merging into an inclined depression at the bottom thereof. a base portion projecting above the recessed bottom portion, a drain located in said recessed body portion below the level of the projection of the base, and a continuous bead extending along the side edges of the body portion and along the inner edge of the base, said base.
2. An article of the class described, having a vertically recessed or hollow body portion, the said hollow body portion merging into an inclined depression at the bottom thereof, a base portion projecting above the recessed bottom portion, a. drain located in said recessed body portion below the level of the projection of the base, and a continuous bead extending along'the side edges of the body portion and horizontally along the inner edge of the base below the upper face portion of said base.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to thisspecification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM J. J. BOWMAN.
