PAPER-HANGING MACHINE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ROY P. EKSTROM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elm Creek, in the county of Bufialo, State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Hanging Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to a paper hanging machine and more particularly to a machine for pasting and applying to a surface, a wall paper.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a paper hanging machine adapted to be manually manipulated by the hands of an operator and comprises means for supporting a roll of paper, means for supplying paste to one surface of the paper, and means for applying the paper to a surface to be covered.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a paper hanging machine which is simple in construction, easily and conveniently handled, thoroughly efiicient in operation, and inexpensive in the manufacture.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter more fully described while the details of construction of the invention will be illustrated in the accompanying drawings which disclose the preferred form of embodiment of the invention and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claim. It is to be understood however, that changes, variations and modifications will be resorted to such as come properly within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 4 is a top plan view.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.

In the drawings, the numeral 5 designates generally the main frame of the machine which may be of any desirable material and construction although it is preferably composed of spaced side plates 6 the latter united by cross pieces 7 and journaled in said side plates 6 near the lower end of the frame is Specification of Letters Patent.

a removable roller 8 over which the web of wall paper is adapted to be wound and unwound.

Between the side plates 6 at a point centrally of the main frame 5 is mounted a paste receptacle or drum 9 in which is rotatably mounted a paste feed roller or rotary paste brush 10 which latter protrudes a slight distance through an elongated opening 11 beyond one face of the paste receptacle or drum so that paste from the said receptacle will be applied by the brush or roller 10 to one face of the strip of wall paper 12 as the same is unwound from the roller 8 and which strip of wall paper 12 when being unwound from the roller 8 passes over a guide roller 13 which latter is journaled in the side plates in a plane with the paste roller or brush 10.

The strip of wall paper 12 after contacting with the paste roller or brush 10 passes under 2. further guide roller 14 journaled in the side plates 6 slightly above the plane of the guide roller 13 and on the opposite side of the paste receptacle or drum relative to the position of the said guide roller 13 mounted in the frame.

The side plates 6 at one end of the main frame 5 are formed with angular extensions 15 which support therebetween a presser roller 16 ournaled at the extremities of the said extensions 15 and which presser roller is adapted to travel over the uncoated face of the wall paper 12 so as to press and apply the face of the paper coated with paste so that the strip of paper will contact and adhere to a surface to which it is to be applied.

At opposite sides of the main frame 5 and secured to the outer faces of the side plates 6 are loop hand grips or handles 17 whereby an operator can manipulate the machine for applying and pasting the wall paper upon a surface to which it is to be applied.

In the operation of the machine it will be seen that the strip of wall paper 12 is unrolled or unwound from the web supporting roller 8 and the same is passed over the uide roller 13 across the paste receptacle or crum 9 where the paste roller or brush 10 contacts with the underface of the strip of paper so as to apply paste to the underface of said paper which latter is passed under the guide roller 14 and thence the presser roller 16 is brought into action against the uncoated face of the strip of paper and as the latter is drawn through the machine the said presser roller will operate to apply the paper to a surface with which the same contacts so as to lay it in a smooth and even manner.

lVhat is claimed is A machine of the class described compris ing a main frame having a setoif extremity a paper Web supporting roller removably mounted at the other end of the main frame and from which is adapted to be unwound a strip of paper, a paste receptacle fixed centrally Within the main frame, a paste applying roller disposed Within the paste receptacle and adapted to deliver paste from the latter to one side of a strip of paper, guide rollers arranged at opposite sides of the paste receptacle above and below the plane of its upper face and journaled in the main frame to guide therebetween a strip of paper as the same is acted upon by the paste roller, and a presser roller journaled in the offset extremity of the main frame.
