anon 1 for UNITED STATES PATENT @FFIQE.
WILLIAM HENRY SOHROEDER, OF CRESTON, IOWA.
SLIP-HOLDER,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM II. SoHRoE- DER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Creston, in the county of Union and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Slip-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to slip holders for filing cabinets.
The object of the invention is to provide a holder of novel form designed to be conveniently manipulated, said holder being simple and durable in construction.
A further object is to provide a slip holder having means whereby the slips will be firmly clamped in position thereon.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings is shown the preferred form of the invention.
In said drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet embodying the present improvements, said cabinet being shown open, and a portion of the cover being broken away. Fig. 2 is a detail View of one of the slip holders. Fig. 3 is a section 011 line AB, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail view of a modified construction.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates a cabinet having its side walls provided with inclined upper edges as indicated at 2, there being a top panel 3 upon the side walls and adjacent the upper ends of the inclined port-ions, said top panel having a closure hinged to it as at 1. This closure consists preferably of two panels 5 and 6 hingedly connected as indicated at 7 and designed to fold together and, when so folded, to be supported in an upright position upon the panel 3, as shown in Fig. 1. A front closure 8 may be hinged as at 9 to the front wall of the cabinet and is designed to be locked in any suitable manner in closed position and with its upper edge in the same plane with the inclined edges 2 of the end walls. Drawers 10 may be arranged at any suitable points within the front and sides of the cabinet.
The cabinet is preferably divided by means of a partition 11 into two compartments 12 and 13 and the side walls of each compartment are provided with metal -linings 14 having parallel cleats 15 15 extend- Specification of Letters Patent.

ing therefrom and preferably arranged perpendicular to the bottom of the cabinet. A slip holder is designed to be inserted between every -two adjoining cleats and consists of a substantially rectangular frame 16 preferably formed of stiff wire and provided between its ends with transversely extending supporting wires 17 A spring clip is secured upon each frame 16 and consists of a U-shaped spring wire 18 having its ends soldered or otherwise secured to the frame as indicated at 19, the middle or crown portion of the clip being bowed laterally as indicated at 20 so as to straddle the middle wire 17 and thus operate to partly fold an inserted slip upon said wire. Obviously a slip engaged by a clip of this construction will thus be securely bound upon not only the middle portion 17 but also upon the adjoining wires. Importance is attached to the fact that the clip straddles one of the wires. Obviously should a slip of paper be clamped between two straight wires arranged at angles to each other the point of contact would be very small and the paper slip would tend to swing with the contacting point as a pivot. It would therefore be difficult to hold the slip of paper in proper position. By so constructing the clip that it will straddle a wire, however, the slip of paper is partly folded, as above stated, and thus positively held in the position in which it is placed upon the slip holder.
The various frames 16 which are mounted between the cleats 15 rest upon an inclined base 21 located within the housing and preferably parallel with the edges 2 thereof. It is designed to utilize one frame for each set of account slips and to arrange these frames in any desired way within the compartments 12 and 13. By opening the top panels 5 and 6 access can be readily had to the interior of the cabinet and any one of the frames 16 can be withdrawn therefrom.
Instead of utilizing separately removable slip-holders, as in Fig.1, the same may be mounted on a removable base frame 21 such as shown in Fig. 5, each of the slip holders 16 being pivotally mounted upon said base and held in position thereon by means of loops or eyes 22. In Fig. 5 only one slip holder has been shown upon the base frame but it is to be understood that said base frame is designed to support a series of pivoted slip holders 23 which are similar in construction to the holder 16. Both of the holders l6 and 23 are preferably provided with longitudinal reinforcing Wires 24.
WVhen a structure such as shown in Fig. 5 is utilized one base frame 21 is placed upon the bottom of each compartment 12 and 13 and When it is desired to examine the slips upon any one of the holders the cabinet is opened and the holders are swung upon their bearings so as to leave the slips upon holder comprising a Wire frame, parallel,
transversely extending supporting W1res secured at their ends to opposite portions of the frame, a longitudinally extending reinforcing Wire secured at its ends to opposite portions of the frame, a spring clip secured at its ends to one side of the frame, said clip consisting of a substantially U-shaped Wire having its middle or croWn portion bowed laterally to straddle one of the transverse Wires of the frame, portions of the frame being open to receive portions of a slip pressed thereinto by the bowed portion of the clip.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afliXed my signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
WILLIAM HENRY SCHROEDER.
