To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CYRUS J. Gnosonovn, a citizen of the United States, residing at W'inona, in the county of .Vinona and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Purse; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to improvements in purses or leather receptacles, and has for its object to provide a simple, efficient, durable and inexpensive device of this character which is adapted to be used as a money purse, tobacco-bag or other similar uses. It is well known that the plaited leather bags of this character used in carrying coin soon wear through the bottom and thus become useless.

The hereinafter described invention is composed of a thin piece of leather, of circular form having a drawing string passed through perforations in the edge thereof and is provided with a shield or support "of heavy leather which extends down the sides and under the bottom, which completely shields the bottom of the same from outer exposure and wear. It will be seen that a purse of this character having the aforesaid reinforcement will outwear by many times the old fashioned purse devoid of this shield.

In the drawings, Figure l is a view looking at one face of the purse. Fig. 2 is an edge view. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a leather purse composed of thin flexible leather having perforations adapted to receive a drawing string 2. Extending down the sides, and passing beneath the bottom of said purse is a heavy leather shield or support 3, which is designed to shield the thin leather portion 1, from exposure and wear and is slightly rounded or curved, as clearly shown, so as to form a slight pocket 3 to receive the lower portion of the purse. The upper portion of the shield 3 is provided with snap fasteners 4t and 5.

Then it is desired to close the purse the cord 2 is drawn tightly which closes the mouth of the purse, and the snap fasteners are then pressed together, as will be readily understood. The sides of the shield support or covering are provided with apertures 2 through which. the draw string passes, as seen clearly in Fig. 1.

\Vhat is claimed is,

As a new article of manufacture, a strip of heavy. leather bent upon itself, in combination with an independent receptacle of flexible leather connected with the inside of said strip, in two places near each of the upper ends thereof, said receptacle being free in the center, means connected with the receptacle for forming a closure, for coins and the like, said strip being designed for compressing and protecting said receptacle from wear, and having a depression forming a concave seat for the lower portion of said receptacle, said strip being opensided whereby the capacity of the inner receptacle is readily adjusted to its contents, substantially as and for the purpose described.
