SANDPAPER-APPLYING DEVICE.
Original application filed June 10, 1907, Serial No. 378,260.
The main object of the present invention is to provide a device by means of which the sandpaper is applied to my sandpaper holder, as set forth in the above applicatlon,
without the necessity of removing the holder from the spindle or shaft to which it is attached, the applier, hereinafter set forth, consisting primarily of a holder for the clamping band of the sandpaper holder, and means for pressing the band upon the disk of the holder, while the clamping devices of the holder are operated to clamp the band so as to attach the sandpaper to the holder, the applier being then released and removed. In other words, with my applier, the clamping band and the paper receiving disk remain in the same relative positions or stationary, while the clamping device of the holder is operated to clamp the band securely upon the disk.
To clearly illustrate the construction of the applier and the method of applying the sandpaper, attention is invited to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the applier with the clamping band in position. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the disk, band and applier in the position they assume prior to the securing of the applier. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same clamped. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the applier.
Referring to the drawings :-The numeral 1 designates sandpaper shaping and band receiving disk or plate, which is provided with a series of snap spring arms 2, by means of which the clamping band a, of the sandpaper holder 6, is held, just prior to receiving the sheet 0, of sandpaper, which Specification of Letters Patent.

Connected to the rear and at the center of the disk or plate 1, is the terminal 3, of the arm 4, which terminates in a bowed portion 6, above the periphery of the plate 1. Pivoted in the end 7 of the bowed portion, is the arm or lever 8, which terminates at a point substantially opposite to the terminal 3, in a yoke 10, the handle 11, of the lever having a spring 12, connected to it and the bowed portion of the arm, so that the yoke is normally held away from the plate 1. In order to operate upon this lever so that the yoke is brought toward the plate 1, I employ the eccentric or cam lever 13, which is pivoted to the bowed portion 6, at a point opposite the periphery of the plate 1, the surface 11 of the eccentric or cam being in contact with the handle 11, ofthe lever 8, so that when the handle 15, of the lever 13 is pulled down upon, the yoke will be moved toward the plate 1.
After the sandpaper has been inserted as above described, the yoke is placed so as to straddle the spindle receiving boss or lug (Z, of the sandpaper holding disk Z), the parts assuming the position shown in Fig. 2. The handle 13 is now pulled down upon and the action causes the parts toassume the position shown in Fig. 3, atv which time the clamping device, shown in my patent hereinbefore mentioned is operated, securing the paper and band 64, upon the holder, after which the applier is removed.
