MANICURE-BUFFER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, l\ [AIA CRANE TENER, residing at Sewickley, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, a citizen of the United States, have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Manicure-Buffers, of which im provement the following is a specification.
The invention described herein has for its object the provision of an easily renewable buffing surface or covering for manicure buffers, and is hereinafer more fully de scribed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of a buffer having my improvement applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same; Fig. 3 is a transverse section on a plane indicated by the line IIIIII Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view illustrating a modification of my im provement.
The buffer may be constructed in any suitable manner such for example as that shown consisting of a block 7, preferably formed of wood, and having a handle 8 firmly secured to the block. A cushion 9 is formed of a suitable resilient material as wool, hair, etc, and attached to the block by a flexible retaining cover 10.
lVhile my improvement is especially applicable for providing a new buffing covering after the original surface has been destroyed, it is also adapted for the manufacture of buffers, and in such case would be substituted for the covering 10.
In the practice of my invention,'I form a poke or bag 1 of chamois skin, or other suitable material, of such transverse dimensions that when drawn. longitudinally over the entire buffer or only the body portion thereof, it will be stretched tightly over the cushion part of the buffer. The poke or bag is open at one end to permit of the insertion of the buffer, such slit or opening 2 being extended sufficiently far along the back of the poke to allow of the latter being slipped over the body and handle as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. A strap 3 is provided on one side of the slit or opening, and is so Specification of Letters Patent.

located that when the poke has been applied, the strap can be drawn around the end of the buffer and its free end secured to the poke or bag on the other side of the slit or opening. \Vhile any suitable means may be employed for detachably securing the free end of the strap it is preferred to use the well-known glove fastener, consisting of a socket and pin at, one of said members hav ing resilient walls.
In Fig. 4, wherein the poke or bag is made to fit tightly around the body portion of the buffer, the slit or opening is extended sufiiciently far to allow the poke or bag to pass around the stem portion of the handle 5. \Vhen the slit or opening is thus extended, a second fastener 6 is employed to hold the poke or bag closely around the cushion portion of the body between the handle and end. As will be readily understood, this poke can be easily and quickly applied to and removed from the buffer. As before stated the bufiing cover can be applied in the manner described in the manufacture of the buffer as well as when renewal is required.
I claim herein as my invention:
1. A removable covering for buffers consisting of a poke having an opening in one end and constructed when applied to the buffer to fit tightly around the body portion of the buffer and against the resilient portion of the latter and means for securing the edges of the slit or opening around the end of the buffer.
2. A removable covering for buffers consisting of a poke having a slit or opening in one end and adapted to he slipped over the buffer and handle and to fit tightly against the resilient portion of the buffer and a strap so secured to one side of the slit as to bear against one end of the body portion of the buffer and a fastener to attach the end of the strap to the other side of the slit.
