Patented Jan. 30, 1906.
Application filed Septeniber 20, 1905. Serial No. 279.275.
T all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, ARCHIBALD M. FITZKEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atkinson, in the county of Henry and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in SafetyePockets, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to garment-pockets; and it consists of two spring-strips of hard rubber or steel secured to the mouth of the pocket for holding thesarne normally closed, whereby the contents of the pocket are prevented from Jfalling out.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of one of the strips, and Fig.V 2 is a similar view oi" the other strip. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the pocket with the invention applied. Fig. 4 is plan view of the mouth of the pocket.
Referring specifically to the drawings7 10 denotes a spring-strip of hard rubber or steel, on one side of which is secured a rubber tube 11. The strip has thread-holes 10LL for attachment. A second spring-strip of hard rubber or steel is indicated at l2, being also provided with holes 12a for the attachingthreads. The manner in which these strips are attached to the pocket is clearly illustrated in Fig. 3, in which 13 denotes thegarment and 14 the lining forming the pocket 15. The strips are located at the mouth of the pocket and sewed under the lining 14, with the tube 11 between the strips. The strips are also sewed together at their ends.
When attached as herein described, the strips hold'the inouth of the pocket normally closed. A pencil or other article can be readily inserted and will be held by the strips with a yielding pressure due to the rubber tube 11, whereb the article is effectively prevented from ropping out of the pocket.
Having thus described iny invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a pocket, of oppositely-disposed spring-strips secured to the mouth of the pocket for ho ding it closed, and
a rubber tube secured to the face of one of said strips.
In testimony whereof I have signed my naine to this specification in the 'presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ARCHIBALD M. FITZKEE.
