Be it known that I, IVILLIAM H. SITTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hobart, in the county of Kiowa and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Supports, Gages, and Marking Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combined support, gage and marking device and particularly to that class adaptedto be used for fitting weather boarding around frames, corner boards, etc., and my object is to provide a device of this class which may be readily attached to the corner board or the frame.

A further object is to provide suitable graduations thereon, whereby the position of the weather board may be readily ascertained and a further object is to provide means for marking a weather board, whereby it may be sawed to fit around the frame.

Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device complete. Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof as seen on line 2-2, Fig. 1, and, Fig. 3 is a sectional view as seen on line 3-3, Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates the body of my improved device, the lower portion of which is provided on its opposite sides with graduations 2, while extending laterally through the head 3 of the body is a clamp bar 4, said bar being slidably mounted in said head, one end of the bar 4 having a lateral extension 5, on the inner face of which is provided a prong 6, which prong is adapted to engage and enter one edge of a frame or corner board 7 while the body 1 is provided on opposite sides with similar prongs 8, which are adapted to enter the frame 7 at its opposite edge. In order to force said prongs into the frame and securely lock the device in position thereon, a lever 9 is pivotally attached to the bar 4, said lever having a cam face 10, which is adapted to Specification of Letters Patent.

press against the outer face of the body 1 and force the same toward the frame, this operation likewise moving the clamp bar 4 longitudinally and firmly engaging the lateral extension 5 with the frame and as the frames and corner boards vary in width, a plurality of openings 11 are formed in the clamping bar 4, whereby said lever may be adjusted as occasion may require.

Extending outwardly from the head 3 is a tongue 12, to which is pivotally secured an arm 13 and on said arm is slidably mounted a marker 14, said marker having elongated slots 15 therein through which and the arm 13 extend bolts or screws 16, the outer edge of said marker having a handle 17 thereon, while the inner edge is provided with teeth or projections 18, which are adapted to make a distinct mark across the board when the marker is moved back and forth over the board.

In applying the device to use, the first strip of weather boarding is placed in position and the body I placed thereover and the position of the next succeeding board obtained through the medium of the graduations on the lower end of the body, after which the device is clamped to the corner board or frame through the medium of the lever 9, the next succeeding board being rested on the upper end of the head 3 and should said board be of greater length than necessary, the arm 13 is swung upwardly until the teeth on the marker rest against the face of the board, when by moving the marker upwardly and downwardly, a line will be formed on the face of the board, indicating where the board is to be sawed to make a perfect fit. The arm is again swung downwardly, the board removed and sawed at the place indicated, when the board can again be positioned on the head 3 and nailed to the studding, the head serving as a support for the board while the same is being nailed.

By placing the prongs 8 on each side of the body 1, the device may be used either right or left handed as the clamp bar may be introduced upon the opposite side of the body and the marker can be changed to the opposite side of the arm.

What I claim is:

A device of the class described comprising the combination with a body having graduations thereon and prongs on said body; of a clamping bar extending laterally through I said body said bar having a lateral extension, a prong on said extension and a lever adjustably mounted 011 said bar, said lever 5 having a cam face adapted to engage the body and clamp the extension and body in engagement with an ObJGCt.
