AUTOMATIC MEASURING-MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 21, 1909.
Application filed May 6, 1907. Serial No. 372,203.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that we, EDGAR l/VHITTEN, Jr., and ATTIE ALFRED HARRELL, both of Grand View, in the county of Johnson and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Measuring-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an automatic measuring apparatus for groceries and other dry materials.
The object of the invention is to provide a measuring machine with a plurality of transversely operating cut-offs for accurately measuring the amount intended and having an adjustable member to provide for Variation in the weight of the different materials to be measured.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a vertical section of this improved measuring machine; Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section thereof.
In the embodiment illustrated a hopper A is shown provided with a measuring chute B having a funnel C at its lower end for feeding or guiding the material measured into a sack or other receptacle. A plurality of cut-offs or slides H operate transversely of the chute B through slots in the front wall thereof and are designed to divide the chute into a number of compartments varying in size to hold, say for instance, one-half pound, one pound, and so on.
To provide for the variation in weight of different material the back Z is made laterally adjustable by means of members K. These members K are preferably made as shown, in the form of substantially U-shaped rods having a crank portion pass through eyes or loops as 2' on the back Z having the ends or arms thereof passed through eyes J on the sides of the chute. These ends are adjustably mounted in said eyes J by means of nuts j threaded on said rods and arranged on opposite sides of the eyes or loops J.
WVe claim as our invention:
A measuring vessel having a plurality of cut-offs operable transversely thereof, one of the walls of said vessel being laterally adjustable to vary the size of the compartments formed by said cutoffs, a U-shaped rod engaged with said wall and having its ends shdably mounted on the sides of said vessel, and jam nuts for locking said rod in adjusted position.
