tion being to provide an improved roll which is made of flexible fabric so that it may be readily extended and placed upon a table for use and may be readily rolled and disposed into compact form when not in use, and which forms a superior substitute for the boards ordinarily employed for rolling dough and saves the time and disagreeable labor required for cleaning such board after use, as my improved flexible roll does not require to be cleaned each time it is used but may be used for an indefinite length of time.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective of a bread roll constructed in accordance with this invention, showing the same extended and in position for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the same rolled and disposed compactly to be put away when not in use. Figs. 8 and 4 are detail sections respectively on the planes indicated by the lines aa, and b-Z) of Fig. 1.
My improved bread roll is made of suitable flexible fabric such as canvas or the like. The body 1 of the bread roll is rectangular in form and is provided at one end with a flap 2 which has outwardly converging side edges 3. At opposite sides of the body are the cover flaps 1 which are adapted to be folded on the creases indicated at 10 over the body to cover the same.
Formed with the cover flaps are extension flaps 5 and guard flaps 6, the latter being preferably formed by doubling the fabric and by rows of stitching 7, the guard flaps and the extension flaps being at the outer edges of the cover flaps and the guard flaps when the cover flaps are folded over the body being extended in line with the cover flaps and coacting therewith to cover the body.
Formed at one end of the body and the cover flaps is a transverse flap 9 which is formed by doubling the fabric so as to cause said transverse flap to lie over one end of to form a pocket 8 at such end of the roll for the reception of a rolling pin 10. The transverse flap 9 has its ends stitched to the guard flaps at the outer edges thereof so that when the roll is spread out or extended as shown in Fig. 1, the said transverse flap which forms the upper side of the pocket 8 maintains the guard flaps in upright position so that the guard flaps prevent flour from rolling outwardly from the cover flaps onto the extension flaps and hence waste of the flour is prevented.
The dough is rolled on the body of my improved flexible fabric in the ordinary manner and by the use of the rolling pin, my improved roll being of course placed on a table or other suitable support when the same is being used. hen the use of the roll has been completed, the rolling pin is placed in the pocket 8 where it is covered by the transverse flap 9. The cover flaps and guard flaps are then folded upon the body which causes the extension flaps to be disposed on the said cover flaps and the roll is then manually rolled in tubular form around the rolling pin as shown in Fig. 2 the rolling pin being used as a core for the roll. The end flap 2 is provided with tapes or strings 11 which are used for tying the roll when the latter has been thus compactly disposed.
It will be understood that the surface of the roll on which the dough is rolled is exposed only while the roll is in use, that nothing but flour comes in contact with the roll and that since the roll is rolled up and tied immediately after use the roll can be used for a long time before it will require cleanmg.
hat is claimed is 1. A bread roll of flexible fabric comprising a body portion, cover flaps at opposite sides thereof, guard flaps at the outer edges of the cover flaps and a pocket at one end of the body portion, said pocket including a transverse flap at said end of the body portion, the ends of the said transverse flap being attached to the guard flaps to hold the latter in uprightposition when the roll is unfolded and in use.
2. A bread roll of flexible fabric comprising a body portion, cover flaps at opposite sides thereof, guard flaps at the outer edges of the cover flaps and a pocket at one end of the body portion, said pocket including the body portion and 0f the cover flaps and l a transverse flap at said end of the body portion, the ends of the said transverse flap being attached to the guard flaps to hold the latter in upright position when the roll is unfolded and in use, and extension plates at the outer edges of said cover flaps.
A bread roll of flexible fabric comprising a body portion, cover flaps at opposite sides thereof, guard flaps at the outer edges of the cover flaps and a pocket at one end of the body portion, said pocket including a transverse flap at said end of the body portion, the ends of the said transverse flap being attached to the guard flaps to hold the latter in upright position when the roll is unfolded and in use, and extension flaps at the outer edges of said cover flaps and united thereto at the points where said guard flaps join the cover flaps.
4. A bread roll of flexible fabric coinprising a body portion having a pocket at one end and cover flaps at its sides, said cover flaps having guard flaps extending upwardly therefrom when the roll is spread out in position for use.
