IMPROVEMENT IN PLOW-COUPLINGS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 94,339, dated August 31, 1869.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM BECK, of Mendota, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Plow-Coupling; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which# Figure I represents a side view of my improved plow-coupling. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same.

This invention relates to a new device for connecting shovel-plows and for allowing their adjustment apart.

The invention consists in the use of connecting-bars and a connecting clamp and stop, as hereinafter more fully described.

The handles of two shovel-plows are connected by two rods, A and B. These rods have eyes a at their outer ends, and are by their means fitted to bolts b, which are fastened to the plow-handles. The rod A has its inner end turned up and iitted loosely around B, and the inner end of B is turned down and iitted loosely around A, as shown in Fig. 1. The rods are thereby kept in line, and the plows can be drawn apart or `moved together at will.

A clamp, C, consisting` of two plates, c c, which are connected by two bolts and nuts, d and e, of which one is under each rod, as shown, can be used to lock the rods in a desired position, and to thereby keep the plows a desired distance apart. They can, by iitting the clamp upon one rod only, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. l, be arranged to allow the plows to be drawn apart any suitable distance, but not pushed together beyond a certain point. This is of value for working young corn, as it is important that the plows should be held close together, and still, while plowing, be moved apart to reach or avoid the hills that may be a greater distance apart, and then be again brought together.

The clamp can also be, when on both rods, locked to one and left loose on the other, in which case a small adjustment is still allowed.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A plow-coupling consisting of the two rods A B and of the clamp C, which has two screws, d e. substantially as herein shown and described, to operate as set forth.
