With the parts arranged as above described, the operation will be as follows: ',llie oxygen suppliedA through bore '7 passes through bore l2 into the .t'ront end of chamber 2, entrains the. acetylene supplied through bore S and injectsthe same-in a well-known manner into the mixing duct 19. rlhe acetylene and oxygen aremixed in the 'latter duct and delivered. in fa line jet through bore 2l. llore 2l is made small for vthe purpose of prevei'iting as inuch as possible the tendency to back tiring. The velocity vand. pressure under which they mixture escapes maintains a steady, rigid flame. 'l`he llame thus produced high in ca'lorilic etliciency and is useful for many purposes, but l have found iii use that, in order to obtain an intense heat, it is necessary to sup'- ply oxygen in such proportion as to produce an explosive 'mixture,' and that, notwithstanding the si'nall diameter of Ibore 2l,

The apparatus above described is well' adapted for carrying out my process, whichv consists, generally, in projecting a mixture of acetylene (or other gas) and oxygen containing less oxygen than sulicient to A-produce :in-explosive mixture and supplying to 'said mixture .at a pointv outside the apparatus sutlicient quantity of oxygen at substantially atmospheric pressure to complete the combustion of the aforesaid mixture; also in enveloping a mixture of acetylene (or other gas) with an atiiiiospliere of oxygen which produces complete and concentrated combustion ofjthe said mixture.

Having described my invention, I claim l.. The process of burning oxygen and gasl which consistsn in mingling Ioxyvfen under pres-'ure with gasin a mixer, supplying oxygen at substantially atmospheric pressure to 4of oxygen -under high the mixture beyond the mixer, andfigniting said mixture.
