Description

w. L. CAMP. I PLOW POINT ATTAGHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 28, 1909.

-lClNllllED %TATE% PATENT @FFTCTL.
WILLIAM L. CAMP, 0F J'OPPA, ALABAMA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO LESTER H. CAMP, 0F JOPPA, ALABAMA.
PLOVV-POINT ATTACHMENT.
94:3,(ltl1.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. CAMP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Joppa, in the county of Cullman and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Plow-Point Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to plow point attachments and consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide an attachment adapted to be applied to a worn plow point whereby the usefulness of the point may be prolonged.
While the attachment is especially designed to be used upon those styles of points generally known as bull tongue or scooter it may be used to advantage upon other pat terns, and with the above objects in view it comprises a plate having an elongated perforation adapted to receive a bolt whereby it may be secured to a plow standard, the said plate is provided at its lower edge with a tongue which is adapted to pass through the bolt hole of the worn plow plate and means are provided for securing the said tongue in the bolt perforation of the plow point.
In the accompanying drawings;Figure 1 is a perspective view of the plow point attachment applied to a plow point. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the attachment and a plow point. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the attachment and a plow point.
The plow point attachment comprises a plate 1 having an elongated slot 2 adapted to receive a bolt whereby the said plate may be secured to a plow standard. At the lower edge of the plate 1 is formed a tongue 3 which extends out of the plane of the said plate and at its lower end is carried back traversing this plane of the plate 1 and terminates in a threaded extremity 4. A washer 5 is adapted to fit over the threaded extremity 4 of the tongue 3 and is provided at one side with an extension 6 against which a hammer may be used for the purpose of turning the washer upon the threaded extremity i to tighten the structure. A nut 7 is screw threaded upon the threaded extremity 4 of the tongue 3. The plow point 8 is of the usual pattern and is provided with a bolt perforation 9.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 28, 1909.
Patented Dec. 14, 1909.
Serial No. 510,047.
The attachment as described is adapted to be applied to the plow point 8 after the same has become worn and when it is so applied, the threaded extremity {L is passed through the bolt perforation 9 of the plow point 8 and the upper edge of the said point bears against the lower edge of the plate 1. 'When in such position the tongue 3 lies against the forward surface of the upper portion of the plow point 8 and when the nut 8 is screwed upon the threaded extremity 4 of the tongue 3 and the washer 5 is carried up against the rear surface of the plow point 8, the parts are securely clamped in position as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. Thus the plate 1 serves as the upper portion or an extension of the upper portion of the plow point 8 and the bolt which secures the assemblage to the plow standard is passed through the slot 2 provided in the plate 1 and as the plow point 8 becomes worn to a further extent, the plate 1 may be shifted longitudinally along the plow standard by reason of the fact that it is provided with an elongated slot 2 for the reception of the bolt which secures the same to the plow standard.
Thus it will be seen that a simple and effective attachment is provided whereby when plow points have become worn, their usefulness may be prolonged by applying the attachment. This results in economy inasmuch as the said points are made from relatively expensive metal and without an attachment such as herein described, they are rendered useless when worn to a certain degree, but with an attachment such as described, they may be used until the material of which they are composed is reduced to such thinness as to refuse to hold the tongue 3 and its extension.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A plow point attachment comprising a plate having a bolt perforation and a tongue formed at its lower edge with a laterally disposed threaded extremity and plow point securing devices mounted upon. said extremity of the tongue.
2. A plow point attachment comprising a plate having a bolt perforation and provided at its lower edge with a tongue lying beyond the plane of the plate and having a laterally disposed threaded extremity which traverses the plane of the plate, and. plow and. plow point securing devices 'moi'i'nted 10 point securing devices mounted upon the upon the threaded extremity of the tongue. threaded extremity of the tongue. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 3. A plow point attachment comprising a my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature plate having an elongated opening and proin the presence of two witnesses.
vided at its lower edge with a tongue lying VILLIAM L. CAMP. beyond the plane of theplate and having a lvltness'esi laterally disposed threaded extremity Which JOSEPH J AKERS,
lies transversely across the plane of the plate S. P. MCDONALD.
