To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ABRAM Sorlin, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Detroit, county of lVayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Tindow-Kitchens, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to window kitchens that can be inserted in the opening of a window or wall and engage partly in the window or wall opening and partly external to the house, or building, and arranged to inclose the essential requirements for cooking.

In the drawings Figure 1, is a front elevation of the kitchen closed. F ig. 2, is a cross section through the kitchen and window or wall frame. F ig. 3, is a section parallel with the window opening through the kitchen.

The window kitchen of this invention is made as a box or room-like inclosure, the

- bottom of which rests on the window sill 1,

with the edges of the kitchen engaging closely in the run of the frame originally prepared for the lower sash of the window. The upper front finish 2 of the kitchen eX- tends inside the lower rail 3 of the upper sash, and holds the kitchen firmly in place in the window or wall opening. Under the floor t of the kitchen are wedge-like blocks 5, which produce a perfect engagement between t-he sill and the front part of the floor of the kitchen. The sides of the kitchen G and 7 rise vertically, and are piercedat proper intervals for window or wall openings S and 9, which sufiice to light the interior of the kitchen. The front of the. kitchen is closed in by doors 10 and 11, which close under the front edge of the dome 13. The dome 13 rises from the four sides of the kitchen with -inclines to a central opening 111, over which is a protected fume or ventilation pipe 15. Above that part of the dome which lies to-ward the front or house side of the kitchen, is an inclined extension roof 30, which engages closely under the lower rail 3 of the window sash, and projects forward into the room beyond the window sash. The rear is closed in by an opaque wall 16 external to which is an opaque screen 27 spaced from the rear wall 16 of the kitchen; this may be made in a form to disguise the external projection, and give to the structure the appearance of a bay window, and the kitchen then resembles a projecting or bay window.

lVithin the kitchen, above the ioor thereof, on each side, are brackets 17, on which are raised angle iron bars 1S, adapted to form supports for the lire container 19, which may be shown as an electric, gas, kerosene or gasolene burner, or hot plate. Above the brackets and bars on which the fire container rests, at each side of the kitchen are shelves 20, preferably provided with slatted bottoms, or with bottoms that are partially open, with perforations 21 through which any material that gathers may be brushed down into the lower part of the kitchen, where all drippings are caught on the drip pan 22, easily removable through door openings closed by the doors 10 and 11. Above the doors 10 and 11 is a panel 26, covering the space or chamber between the front roof of the dome 13, and the inclined roof 30, which rises from the fume dome to the upper front nish 2. Through this panel are openings in which are inserted a number of drawers 31, used for the storage of any material that may be required for convenient use in connection with the kitchen. A curtain 33, hung in front of the front finish 2, is adapted to be drawn down to entirely conceal the lower half of the window opening and the kitchen placed therein.
