Abstract

23,552. South Metropolitan Gas Co., and Chandler, D. Dec. 4. Gas cooking- stoves.-A gas-oven, of the kind consisting of a closed chamber heated by a burner outside it and in an outer casing, has a floor, top, and walls made of separate plates loosely inserted and supported on angleirons. Fig. 2 shows a stove with a double-walled and packed outer casing a, inside which are bolted eight brackets c supporting two three-sided frames d of angle-iron, extending along the back and sides of the casing and supporting the back, side, top, and bottom plates e, f, i, j. The backplate e is first inserted. The side plates f are then put in ; their rear edges have notches g so that they pass behind the plate e, and their top edges and also the top of the back-plate e have fillets h for supporting the top plate i, which is slipped in from the front between the fillets and the flanges of the top frame d. The bottom j is inserted last ; this has a hook or lug k to engage with the bottom frame d, and rails j<1> for supporting dishes. The walls are preferably of enamelled sheet-iron, and the top plate of black sheet-iron. The lower end of the outer casing consists of a perforated plate l with a rail q for supporting a burner m pivoted so that it may be swung out through the front of the lower part of the stove, which is closed by a door p carried by the burner. The hot air and gases from the burner pass up between the two casings to the space r above the oven, and are deflected to the rear by plates u attached to the top frame d. Thence they pass through a row of perforations t in a plate s to a space above it. This space is bounded by plates v which converge to the chimney w. In the chimney is a damper x, Figs. 2 and 3, mounted on a diametral axis and rotated by a spindle y connected to the gas cock z, so that the opening of the damper is proportionate to the supply of gas. The top w<1> of the stove is secured by bolts 1 running vertically through the outer casing, and by screws 2 at the front edge.
