CEMENT BLOCK non wan-L s rn'oc'ronn.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 30, 1909.
Application filed. March 8, 1909. Serial No. 482,042.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM L. DAVIDSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kearney, in the county of Buffalo and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Cement Block for Wall Structures, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to building blocks and walls constructed therefrom.
The object of the, invention is to provide novel forms of blocks for use in wall construction, that when set up or laid, will cause the wall to furnish air spaces both vertically and horizontally, and in which perfect cross bearings for each course will 'be secured when the blocks are laid to break joint, tier upon tier.
A further object is to obtain a finished and substantial corner block, that will also pro vide for thorough ventilation in all desired directions.
\Vith theabove and other objects in View, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of building blocks, and walls constructed therefrom, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts,Figure 1 is a view in plan of a portion of a wall constructed with the blocks of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the side blocks. 3 is a similar view of one of the middle blocks. Fig. 4 is a similar view of one of the corner blocks.
As shown in Fig. 2, the side block comprises an approximately rectangular body portion 1 from one end of which projects an approximately T-shaped locking lug 2, the neck 3 of which is provided with longitudinal ventilating channels 4. The middle block comprises an approximately rectangular body portion 5, from the diagonally opposite sides of which project locking lugs 6 and 7, respectively, that are disposed in parallelism with the body portion, and each of which is provided with longitudinal ventilating channels 8. The corner block, as shown in Fig. 4, is approximately L shaped, and its longer member 9 is provided with a spacing lug 10, that is disposed approximately parallel with the other member 11.-
At the angle or bend of the block, a reinforce 12 is provided which will materially add to the strength of the block.
It will be observed by reference to Fig. 1, that the lugs 2 of the side blocks have square ends and are narrower than the spaces between the inner walls of the lugs 6 and 7 and the adjacent walls of the body portion 5 of the middle blocks, and by this arrangement the vertical ventilating ducts or spaces 13 are provided between these parts, while the peculiar configuration of the blocks provide other ventilating ducts 14 between the side and middle blocks and also the corner blocks, and these ducts in conjunction with the channels 4 and 8 will secure perfect ventilation of the walls in all directions, it being understood that the necks 3 of the side blocks are provided on both sides with the channels 4.
It will be noted that the inner walls of the necks 3 and 15 of the side and middle blocks are curved, and this feature will always insure ventilation between the lugs 2, 6 and 7 even if the lugs contact with the necks 3 and 15. In other words, it will be immaterial how closely the blocks are laid, as regards the ventilating feature, as this will always be assured under all conditions.
What I claim is 1. A block for wall construction comprising a rectangular body portion provided at one end with a T-shaped locking lug, one terminal of the head of said lug projecting beyond the end of the body portion.
2. A wall composed of middle, side and corner blocks, the middle and side blocks being provided with lugs that interlock and with horizontal ventilating channels in the necks of the said lugs, and the corner blocks being provided with a spacing lug disposed parallel with one member of the block and adapted to bear against the side of a middle block, all of the parts being out of contact to provide vertical ventilatingchannels.
3. A wall composed of corner, side and middle blocks, the side blocks being each provided at one end with a T-shaped lug, the middle blocks being each provided at the opposite ends on opposite sides with lugs interlocking with the T-shaped lugs on the inner and outer side blocks, and the corner blocks having longer and shorter members having their ends bearing against the ends of the adjacent side blocks and provided on the inner faces of their longer members With spacing lugs bearing against the side of the adjacent middle block.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my slgnature in the presence of two Witnesses.
VILLIAM L. DAVIDSON.
