'NITED .C s PATENT FFIQ'EE.
EDWARD M. BUCK ANNAN, OF SULPHUR SPRINGS, TEXAS.
FLOW.
Hopkins and State of Texas, have invented ing is a specification. I
This invention has relation to plows and a new and useful Plow, of which the followit consists in the novel construction and ar-;
rangenient of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a plow in the construction of which the plow standard is so mounted that it may be swung with relation to the beam and at the same time may be aopisted vertically with relation to the beam. 13y such an arrangement the plow share and moldboard may be presented at any desired angle to the soil.
A further object of the invention is to pivotally mount a runner at the rear end of the beanr and also pivotally connect the same with the plow standard and provide the said foot or runner with a rudder which is adapted to engage the bottom of a furrow and steady the plow as an entirety.
In the accompanying drawings;--Figure 1 a perspective view of the plow, Fig. 2 is an under perspective View of the plow share. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the upper portion of the standard, the beam being shown in section.
The plow includes a beam 1 which is of the usual crook configuration and to the forward end of which is attached a horizontally disposed clevis f2. Brackets 3 are attached '1 the rear end portion of the beam 1 and inc forward ends of handles 4 are connected with the said brackets The rear end of each bracket 3 is p1()"i(l6(l with a series of perforations 5 and bolt- 6 is ada ted to pass transversely through any one o the perforations 5 and the handles 4. By such an arrangement it is apparent that the handles 4 may he. swung with relation to the brackets 3 and secured in an adjusted position and at any desired angle with relation to the said brackets.
Ribs 7 are located upon the vertical sides of the beam 1 at the curved portion thereof and the said beam is provided at its upper edge and along its curved portion with spaced teeth 8. Bars 9 are ivotally connected with the lower rear out of the beam 1 and are located upon the opposite sides thereof. The said bars 9 constitute a runner.

A standardlO is )ivotally connected with the forward end oi the runner 9, the said forward endof the foot being upwardly .disposed as atll. A rudder 1.2 is located between the rear end portions of the sides of v the runner 9 and is-provided with a series, of perforation-s 13, any one of which is adapted to receive abolt 14: which passes transversely through the rear end portion of the said rnn nor 9. The said rudder 1.2. is substantially triangular in side elevation and while its forward portion is fixed with relation to the runner 9 by a transverselydisposed bolt 15 it is apparentthat by removing the bolt 14 the rear endportion of said rudder may be shifted and by replacing the bolt 14 said rudder is held in an adjusted position. The object in making the rudder 12 triangular in shape is that when one of its edges or sides becomes worn it may be reversed or turned over whereby its other edge may be disposed below the lower edge of the runner 9. y
The standard 10 is made inthe form of an elongated U shaped structure and is provided at its sides with corrugations 16 which are adapted to receive the ribs. 7 mounted upon the beam' 1. The upper end portions of the sides of the'standard 10 are provided with elongated slots 17 which receive a transversely disposed bolt 18 and which in turn is adapted to rest within the space between the teeth 8 mounted upon the beam 1. One of the sides of the standard 10 'is provided at its upper end with spaced lugs 19 and the upper end portion of thc'other side of the said standard is disposed toward that side of the standard upon which the lugs 19- are mounted and the extremity of the later ally disposed portion of the side of the standard terminates in a lug 20 which is adapted to lie between the lugs 19. A set screw 21 is screw threaded'in the laterally disposed poltion and the upper end of the standard 10 and is adapted to hear at its lower end upon the side of the bolt 18 and forms means for positively retaining the said bolt in the spaces between the teeth 8. A corrugated washer is mounted upon the bolt 18 and is adapted to engage the corrugati'ons at one of the sides of the Sl'fllltltHTl 10.
By the arrangement above described it is obvious that the bars of the runner 9 may be swung upon their pivotal connection with relation to the beam 1 and by so doing it will be seen that the standard 10 may be adjusted longitudinally of its length across the said beam 1. After the said standard has been adjusted longitudinally as described the bolt 18 is seated in a space between adjacent teeth 8 and the nut upon the said bolt 18 is tightened. It will be also seen that prior to securing the bolt 18 as.
the standard ,is adjusted about the ribs 7- mounted upon the sides of the beam 1.
The plow proper consists of a share 37, a mold boar-(138 and a land side plate 3!). The land side plate is provided at its lower edge with a detachable plate 40 which may be renewed when worn out.
Fig. 2 illustrates how the parts of the plow propc' are connected together. A plate 41. is located against the inner side oi the land side plate 39 and a ainst the land side portion'ot' the share 34' and is provided with a flange e2 which is adapted to rest against the forward edge of the standard it). A plate 43 is located underthe mold board 38 and the upper portio n otithe share 37 and provided with a flange 4.4 which is adapted to lie against the sides of the standard 10. The plow proper is adapted .to be secured to the standard 10 by means of transversely disposed bolts 45 which pass through .the lower portion of the standard 10 and the land side plate 39 and plate 41 and the flange 44 of the plate 43. Other securing means may be employed for attaching the plow proper to the standard if desired. Thus a simple and durable nlow' is provided which may be readily and easily applied to the standard and plow beam as indicated. i
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
1. A plow comprising a curved beam having arcuatc ribs upon its sides, a runner pivotally connected with the rear end of the beam, a standard pivot-ally connected With the forward end of the runner and having at its upper portion, corrugations adapted to receive the ribs upon the beam to permit the standard to be adjusted transversely of the beam and a. securing device for fixing the standard with relation to the beam.
2. A plow comprising a curved beam having arcuate ribs, a runner pivot ally attached to the rear end of the beam, a standard pivoted to the forward end of the runner and having at its upper portion corrugations adapted to receive the ribs upon the beam, said standard also being provided near its upper end with an elongated slot, a bolt passing transversely through the slot and adapted to engage the beam and means carried by the standard for forcing said bolt into engagement. with the beam.
A plow comprising a curved beam having arcuate ribs at its sides, a runner pivotally attached to the rear end of the beam, a standard pivotally connected with the forward end of the runner and having at its upper portion corrugations adapted to receive the ribs upon the beam said standard also having an elongated slot at its upper portion, a bolt passin transversely through said slot and adapted to engage the upper edge of the beam and a set screw mounted upon the standard and adapted to engage said bolt and force the same against the edge of the beam.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as, my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
EDIVARD M. BUGKITANNAN.
