Description
W. R- SANTLEY Wagon Reach and Hound.
No. 94,034. Patented Aug. 24, 1869. I
V dnitrd $121M W. R.-SANTLEY, OF NEW LONDON, OHIO.
Letters .Patent No. 94,034, dated August 24, 1869.
IMPROVED .WAG-ON-REACH AND BOUND.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters datent and making part of the same.
construction of the reaches and hounds of wagons and. carriages; and consists in making the reach and hounds of a single piece of wood, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure 1 represents a top view of a reach and hounds constructed according to myinvention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal view of the piece of timber 01' plank, prepared by sawinginto the end for forming the hounds from one end, while the other end forms the reach.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the reach.
B represents the hounds.
To make the combined reachuand hounds of a single.
piece, I slit the plank, as seen in fig. 2, and either place a band on, or rivet or bolt through it at the point 0. The piece is then steamed and bent to the desired curve or shape on suitablemoulds', and when the timher is dry the parts may be dressed as other hounds.
and reaches are.
Wagon-hounds are ordinarily attached to the reach by a bolt, but a stronger union is obtained by leaving the natural grain of the wood, and suitably fortifying the part, as seen at (l, by a band, rivet, or bolt;
D is the axle.
E is the holster.
This method of constructing the reach. and the hounds saves considerable lumber, while the parts can be made lighter, stronger, and present a more finished -and.neat appearance than when made in the ordinary manner.
Having'thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 4 Forming the reach and the bounds of a wagon-or carriage from a single piece of wood, substantially as shown and described.
