The present invention provides a novel fastening tor straps, tapes and like binding means commonly employed for securing packages, letters and like articles generally secured by means of a buckle.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.

The strap, tape or like binder is indicated at 1 and is provided at or near one end with a fastener and at intervals in its length with a series of stops.

The fastener consists essentially of two parts: a frame and a latch, the two being pivotally connected, and the frame being secured to'the strap or binder at the required point. The frame comprises a base plate 2, side pieces 3 projecting from the plate 2 in parallel relation and at a rightangle thereto, and studs 4, the latter se wing as fastening means to secure the frame to the strap or like part i. The several parts of the frame may be of integral formation, or if separately formed, attached in a way to provide in effect a single part. The studs 1- pass through openings of the strap 1, and their projecting ends are clenched, as indicated at 5, to prevent the studs from pulling through he strap. The side pieces 3 are located at o. posite edges of the plate 2 and may conof wings of a blank, said wings being bent into the form substantially as shown.

The latch consists of a plate 0, an end piece 7 and side pieces 8,. the latter being of triangular form and connecting the end piece 7 with the plate 6 and forming braces or ties to sustain the strain of the fastening when in operation. Openings 9 are formed in the side pieces 8 near the angle formed between the parts 6 and 7 and receive a pin or cross bar 10 by means of which the latch is pivotally connected with the frame of the fastening, the said pin having its ends supported in openings formed in the side pieces 3. The end piece 7 of the latch extends toward the base of the frame and is adapted to engage with the stops of the strap or hinder 1 to secure the latter in the adjusted posi tion. The plate 6 may likewise be arranged so as to engage with one of the stops and thereby supplement the action of the end piece 7 so as to distribute the strain and enable the latch to be made of comparatively light material.

The stops consist of buttons 11 which are flat disks centrally apertured and having a pendent rim 12 at the side adjacent to the strap 1, so as to enter the same and obtain a firm purchase. Each stop is secured to the strap or like part 1 by means of a pin 13 having a fiat head 14 which is slightly concavo-convex, the hollow side lying adjacent to the strap 1, whereby the edge of the head let becomes slightly embedded in the strap, thereby obviating projecting parts. The pin 13 is passed through the strap 1 and the opening 15 provided centrally of the button 11, and its projecting end is upset or riveted, thereby securing the button. The rim 12 prevents the pin 13 from tearing through the strap, and also prevents the end of the plate 6 from pressing between the-button and the strap, which would tend to force the button from the pins, as will be readily understood.

The fastener herein disclosed may be readily applied to a strap, tape or like part by means of the studs at. The stops are located at intervals in the length of the strap, and may be spaced apart any distance. hen tightening the strap or binder, the end of the latch is thrown upward, thereby moving the part 7 to a position to clear the stops, and after the strap has been tightened, the end of the latch is thrown toward the strap, thereby bringing part 7 in position to engage with the stop opposite the pin 10. The strain coming upon the part- 7, is restricted by the end of the part 6 engaging with the strap.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:

1. In combination with a strap or like binder provided with a fastener embodying a pivoted latch, a series of stops located at intervals in the length of the strap, each of said stops consisting of a button and a pin, the buttons being provided with depending projections adapted to be embedded in the upper surface of the strap and the pins passed through the strap and having their projecting ends riveted.

2. In combination with a strap or like binder provided with a fastener embodying a pivoted latch, a series of stops located at intervals in the length of the strap, each of said stops consisting of a button and a pin, the latter passed through the strap and having its projecting end riveted, and said button having a rim at its outer edge embedded in the strap to supplement the action of the pin and prevent the latch entering between the button and the strap.

3. The herein-described fastening means for straps and like hinders, the same consisting of a series of buttons in the length of the strap, pins for securing the buttons to the strap, a frame comprising a base plate having upstanding side-pieces and provided at one end thereof with a depending lip adapted to bear against the adjacent end of the strap, there being lugs depending from the base plate and piercing the strap with their terminals clenched, and a latch pivotedto the frame between said side-pieces and adapted to engage any one of the but tons to secure the strap when tightened, said latch comprising angularly disposed parts, and side-pieces connecting said parts at their edges.
