Description

J. L.-JAMES. SAFETY STIRRUP. PPPPPPPPPPPPPPP I) MAY 19, 1909.
Patented Nov. 9, 1909.
UNI ea JOHN L. JAMES, 01" lvIA-Y, OKLAHOMA.
SAFETY-STIRBUP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jonx L. JAMES, a citizen of the United States, residing at May, in the county of Harper and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety-Stirrups, ofwhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stirrups and has for its object to provide a cheap, effective and comfortable device of the class described which is capable. with the exception of the suspension bar of being formed in one piece of sheet metal. shaped. aportured, bent and welded in the manner hereinafter specifically set forth.
To the above end, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :*Figure 1 is a side elevation of a stirrup constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof.
The stirrup, as a whole, is formed in one piece, stamped out of a piece of sheet metal, the body of the stirrup when in a flat condition, being of diamond-shape and being provided at opposite sides of its center with V-shaped apertures 1 so that when the opposite ends of the diamondsl1aped frame are bent upward in the form of a stirrup, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the said sides will be of inverted V-shape, as shown at 2.
Centrally of the frame is a bottom bar 3 which extends across the center of the diamond and projects in front of the main Specification of Letters Eatent.

body of the stirrup as shown at 4. At a suitable distance-in ad 'ance of the main body of the stirrup, said bar is curved upward as shown at 5 and then extended backward at an inclination as shown at (S forming a toe-loop as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The toe-loop or strap 6 terminates in a tee-shaped cross bar 7, the opposite extremities of which are welded or otherwise joined at 8 to the forward edges of the inverted V-shaped sides of the stirrup.
The upper extremities of the sides 2 are connected by a suspension bar 9 preferably round or tubular in cross section and made to receive the usual stirrup strap.
I claim A stirrup formed in one piece of sheet metal and comprising a diamond shaped body apertured and bent to provide upstanding inverted V-shaped sides, a bottom bar ex tending at a right angle to the major axis of the diamond-shaped body and bent upward on a curve and extended backward at an angle to form a toe-strap, the latter terminating at its upper end in a tee-shaped cross bar the opposite extremities of which are welded to the sides of the stirrup and a suspension bar mounted between the upper extremities of the sides, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
