Description

P. R. PAIN E. LUBRIGATING DEVICE. urmouxon rum) D210. 31, mos.
Patented Nov. 9, 1909.
outrun satires PATENT OFFICE.
FINDLEY ROBERT rerun, or ALBANY, new YORK, ASSIGNOR '10 summon on com- PANY OF NEW YORK, ACORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
LUBRICATING nnvron.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed December 31, 1908. Serial No. 470,220.
Patented Nov. 9, 1909.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, FINDLEY ROBERT PAIIEE a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements of which the tollow- 'tion shown in connection with a journal.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, with parts broken away. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of modified form of my invention. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of the modified form shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the regulating clamp C. I
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The box, A, is mounted above the part to be lubricated and may be formed integral with the housing, 13, as shown in Fig. 1., The housing being secured by suitable bolt or fastening, not shown, through the opening H to the frame, also not shown, of the machine, or the box, A, may be constructed separate from the housing B, as shown in Fig. 3. The box, A, being retained by means of thumb screws, a, a, passing throng flanges, 6, formed on the housing 13,01 in any suitable manner.
The box, A, is rovidd witha. darn, J, and an opening, whereby the] fluid contents of the box A would discharge over the dam, J, through the opening K. I also have within the box, A, o walLIL, which forms one side of the opening, K, the dam, J, being the other side of said opening.
In connection with the wall, L, I secure one side of the clamp, 0, preferably bg means of the thumb screw G. The clamp is arranged to ass over the top of the wall, L, within the ox A, its side oppositethe one through which the thumb screw, G,
' asses extending below the top of the dam,
,, and is provided with. a projection, 1,.
adapted to come in contact with the side of the dam, J, beneath the outwardly pro ecting upper edge, is, thereof, as shown in Fig 3.....The lug, g, at the end of thewall', L,
, prevents the thumb screw G from slippin off and therefore the clamp C isprevented on eachside from slipping out of position.
I placeone end or o fibrous apron, F, in the box, A, and extend the same over the dam, J, throu the openin K, in contact with the sur-ace to be in ricated, E, as shown in Fig. 2. By means of the clamp 3 C and its'thumb screw, G, I can exert upon the portion of the apron, F, in contact with the dam, J, a pressure which will cause the liquid, which will flow by capillary attraction through the apron from the end in the hat portion thereof that comes in contact ith the roller E, as shown in Fig. 2 than. 'that portion which passes over the dam,hut of course, I do not limit myself to this form of epron. B coming in contactwith the sur box to that portion in contact with the sur-' face to be ubricated any dirt or foreign sub s stances which may rest on thesurface of the bearing will be taken up by the apron and the surface will be bright and clean after passing the apron in its rotation.
I do not limit the use of my invention to any particular kind of apparatus, movable or reciprocating, nor for distributing any kind of substance whether lubricating or not.
What I claim as my invention. and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A box. adapted to hold a fluid; a dam in said box; a fibrous material placed over said dam, one end thereof the box and the other in contact with the catin fluid; an adjustable clam do ted to 'hold gaid fibrous material in pos ifl on in con tact with said dam.
2. A boit'adapted to hold a fluid; a dam in said box;,an apron placed over said dam with one-end thereof 1n the boxthe other protruding therefrom adapted to contact with the 'place where it isdesired to deposit the fluid; an adjustable clamp extending lubricating, I
, place where it is desired to deposit thc'lubrh 31:
over the top of the dam and adapted to press '11:
clamp capab e fadjustment within said box whereby said pressure upon said apron may be increased or diminished and the deposit sf the fluid thus re ulatecll A box edapte tqhoid Et -fluid a dam in said-319x; a fibrin; 5. Pen p assing ovei' said (ism, having one 'q' in said box and the ether end thereof jiidtrnding from said 16 box; a clamp, mom's-used 61 two psrts, a' U- &
