Description

J. DEGAN.
ADJUSTABLB' PIGTURE HANGEB.
APPLIOATION PILED DEO. 23, 1908.
Patented Nov. 9, 1909.
UNITED STATES PATENT orron.
JOHN DEGAN, OF ROXBURY, MASSACHUSETTS.
ADJUSTABLE PICTURE-HANGER.
To all 'whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, JOHN DEGAN, citizen of the United States, residing at RoXbury, in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massa chusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Picture- Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful mprovements in devices for hangng pictures and the like, and an object thereof is to produce a cheap and simple adjustable picture-hanger so that a picture-frame having the device attached thereto can be readily adjusted to any angle desired.
Another object of my invention is to produce a new and improved hanger of the character specified which may be easily attached to frames and devices of all kinds which are customarily hung upon the wall, and properly support the same.
The invention further consists of the novel features and details of Construction which hereinafter Will be set forth, illustrated, and claimed.
Referring to the drawings forming a part of the specification: Figure 1 is a side vew, showing a picture-frame with my invention applied thereto, showing the hanger adjusted to give a slight inclination to the frame; Fig. 2 is a similar View with the hanger adjusted to give considerable inclination to the frame; Fg. 3 represents a rear view of an upper corner of a picture-frame, with my improved hanger applied thereto; and, Fig. t is an enlarged perspective View of a hanger embodying my invention.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
l represents a picture-frame, and 2 a wall or support to which it is hung.
I attach to the back of the frame l, at each side thereof a hanger, the same being formed out of a single length of wire 3; or it may be made of fiat metal. The wire 3 or other material to be used is bent at regular intervals to form a series of loops 4 and one of its ends is bent laterally to form an attaching point 5, which may be screw threaded as shown. The other end of the wire 3 is Specification of Letters Patent.

bent to form an eye 6 which is disposed at right angles to the attaching point 5. The point 5 is driven or screwed into the frame l and the other end of the wire is Secured thereto by means of a screw, tack, or other fastening means 7 being passed through the eye 6, and into the frame. The crossing portions of the wire forming the loops 4 are spaced apart, as at 8, whereby the loop 9 of a suspending-cord 10 may be readily passed from one loop to another. If, for example, it is desired to change the inclination of the frame, this may be easily and quickly clone by passing the loop 9 from one loop to another. If the loop is moved npwardly, the angle between the frame and the wall is lessened, while if it is moved downwardly this angle is increased. This arrangement may be used in connection With a single suspending-cord, looped over a support, or when two separate suspending-cords are used one is attached to each side of the frame. If the top edge of the frame is not horizontal, and it is desired to straighten it up, this may be done by simply moving one of the loops until the proper result is secured.
I have used the term picture-frame in the specification and claim for purposes of convenience, for I use the term in its broad sense to comprehend and include frames and devices of all lrinds which are customarily hung upon the wall.
It will be seen that by this Construction a simple, cheap, and eiiicient means is provided for hanging picture-frames and by means of which such frames can be easily and quickly adjusted to any desired position.
It is to be understood that the suspending cord may be provided with a ring, indicated at 11 Fig. 3, to engage With the hanger and thereby prevent the cord from cutting through and enabling the same to be more readly passed from one loop t to another in the adjustment of the suspending cord.
. Having thus described the invention what I claim as new is 2- As an article of manufacture, a picture frame hanger comprising a length of wire having an eye formed at one end and a threaded portion disposed upon the opposite end thereof for securing said length of wire to a frame, said wire being turned over at Patented Nov. 9, 1909.
equ-dsta1`t points throughout its ength to form a pluralty of loops for adjustably engagng a cord for supporting the frame, the crossed portons of said length of wre formng said loops being spaced &part to admt of the passage of the cord longtudnally of the same;
fstmony Whereof I aflx my sgnatufe in presence of two witnesses.
I JOHN DEGrAN.- [11. 5.]
