Figure 2 is an edge view of the sinne.
Fi'glre 3 is a perspective view of our plane-iron holder.
Figure 4 is n perspective view of our improved apparatus, showing it applied.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding part-s.
.This invention has for its object to provide en eppm'ntus by means of which it will be possible for one man to hold a. tool to be sharpened against the edge' of :i grindstone, and to also turn the stone.
Our invention consists in providing a. holder, which, when properly applied, will enable a. person to steady, with one hand, :1- tool of suitable kind, while he may, with the otherhend, turn the-stone.
The toolwto be ground is, for this purpose, secured to a. ber, A, which is, with one endfastened to a post or wall, B, near'which the grindstone is placed, 'as indieet-ed in iig. 4. v
The bar A is, for this purpose, provided with n projecting pointed pin, a, which is'stuckinto thewall or similar instrument;
post, and which 'allows' the bnr to be swung up, or down, or laterally, on its pivot a..
The other end of the tool may be formed with :l` groove, es in fig. 3, for holding n, plane-iron, or other or it may be provided with a, semicirculer plate, c, as in fig. 1, for holding the ends of :t drawing-knife in hooks d ends of said plate:
The plate c we propose toinztke of two pieces, pivoted by a pin, e, to the bnr, so that they can be swung apart or together, for longer or shorter tools, and to allow them to hold the tool in :m oblique or straight position, they being,V in either position, locked by n springcatch, f.
It will be seen that when in this device the tool is secured, it will be snieiently supported, so that the attendent need only guide it properly against the edge of the stone. v
Having thus described our invention,
"What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, i's- 1. The ban' A, provided at one end with the pin a, whereby the seme may: be iixedin a Vall et' any desired point, thus allowing free 'movement of the broad' slotted end in every direction, ns set forth.
2. In combination with the bztrAand pivoted plates c, the catch f, substantially as described for the purpose' specified.
