Specification of Letters Patent.
CHURN STAND Ali-'19 IPO'WER.
Patented Oct. 5-, 11909;
Application filed January 132, me- Seriel- Ho. 471,901.
To all whom it may comm:
Be it. known that we, WILLIAM M. BATES, WILLIAM G. KNIGHT, and JOHN M. GAST, citizens of the United States, residing at Huntsville, in the county of Madison and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churn Stands,
and Power, of which the following is a specification.
()ur invention relates to new and useful improvements in churn constructions, and our object is to provide novel and simple means for supporting a churn dasher and operating the same.
Further objects and advantages of our present invention will appear in the course of the following description, in which reference is made to the accompanying drawings,
forming a part of this specification, and in' which,
Figure 1 is an elevation of our improved apparatus. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken therethrough on the line 22 of Fi g. 1. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the supporting arm removed, and, Fig. 4 is a detailed sectional elevation of a portion of the supporting standard, illustrating particularly the connection of the supporting arm thereto.
In the practical embodiment of our invention, We mount a supporting standard 1, upon a supporting base 2, which may have depending legs 3, by means of the flanged base 4 of said supporting standard, and bolt 5.
The supporting standard 1 is in the form its operating mechanism, is provided with a central strengthening offset 12, and is directly connected at one end to, and extends at right angles to, the supporting standard 1. To this end, a headed bolt 13, is passed through the slot 7 of the standard 1, and through a central opening adjacent one end table thereon. upon its upper end, with a beveled gear 26,
.inner surface of the flanged portions 9 of said supporting standard, and serving, together with projections 16, centrally thereof, WhlCh engage alined ones of the cut out portions 10, to rigidly maintain the arm 11 in the desired position. The supporting arm 11 is provided intermediate its end, with a longitudinal slot 17, terminating at its end nearest the standard 1, in a rectangular enlargement 18, and said arm is further provided upon its outer end with a transverse semi-tubular extension 19, which together with the transverse semi-tubular end 20 of a supplemental arm 21, forms a tubular support for the dasher shaft 22.
The dasher shaft 22, is provided upon its upper end, beyond the tubular support, with a fixed beveled gear 23, and upon its lowest extremity with a circular dasher- 24. Said shaft 22 is further provided with a tubular sleeve 25,- surrounding the same between its circular dasher 24: and the lower end of the tubular support thereof, and loosely rota- Said sleeve 25 is provided and upon its lower end with a circular dasher 27 similar to the dasher 24 of the shaft 22. The semi-tubular end 19 of the supporting arm 11, is rovided with a central trunnion 28, extending from the outer surface, and adapted for the reception of a beveled gear 29, of a diameter sutficient to bring its geared portion into simultaneous engagement with the beveled gears 23 and 26, of the shaft 22, and sleeve 25, respectively, which beveled gear 29, constitutes the driving wheel and is provided with a crank 30, by which the same may be rotated.
-To secure the supplemental'arm 21 in engagement with the supporting arm 11 as shown, 'a headed bolt 81 is projected through the slot 17 of said arm 11, and through an opening in the supplemental arm 21, and is provided with a threaded end for the reception of a wing nut 32, by which the said arm 21 may be securely clamped. The supplemental arm 21 is further provided with an angular extension 33, upon one end, which in the clamped position thereof, projects through the slot'17 of the arm 11, to insure ri idity'thereof.
avlng fully described our invention, we claim:
A dasher mechanism support of the character described, comprising a vertical I-beam support composed of s aced parallel sides connected by a centra ly arranged cross member, said spaced sides being provided with a plurality of alined notches near the upper end thereof, a horizontal supporting" arm provided with s aced parallel upstanding ribs upon one si e thereof, each of said ribs being provided with at least one laterally and outwardly extendlng finger, said said spaced upstanding ribs engaging said.
spaced sides and said lugs fitting within selected notches for rigidly lockingsaid horizontal arm to said vertical beam support andmeans for maintaining said arm in such locked position. A
In testimony whereof we allix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
