C. BLUST, 0F LUCAS, OHIO, AAND MATTHAU HARBSTER, READING, PENN- SYLVANIA, ASSIGNORS TO C. BLUST.
Lette/rs Patent No. 100,969, dated M'arch 22, 1870.
MPRO'V'EMENT IN CHURN-DASHER CRANE-FIXTURES.
The Schedule. referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, C. BLUsT, of Lucas, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, and MATTHAU HARB- sTER, of Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Uhuru-Dash Crank-Fixtures; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saure, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification.v
Figure l is a detail sectional View of my improved fixtures.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional view of the same, taken through the line x x, fig. l.
Figures 3, 4, and 5 are detail views of various parts of the fixtures.
Similar letters of reference. indicate corresponding parts.
Our invention has for its object to improve the construction of the crank and other fixtures by means of which ahorizontal ehnrn-dasher is operated, so as to simplify' their construction and at the same time enable the dasher to be easily operated and convenient-ly removed from the churn-body when required; and
It consists in the construction and combination of the various fixtures as hereinafter morefullj1 described.
A is the bracket, by means Iof which the crank Bis connected with the churn-body, and which is made with three radial arms, al having holes through their ends to receive the screws to secure it to the chumbody.
a? are three arms projecting from the arms al, and at the outer end of which is formed -the outer bearing a?, for-the crank-shaft b'.
l The inner bearing a* for said shaft-s is formed in the middle of the base-plate of. the bracket Ai The inner hearing or socket a* projects beyond the base ofthe bracket A far enough to pass through the side of the churn, and is made slightly tapering, so that it may be driven firmly into the hole formed in the side ofthe churn-body to receive it.
B is the crank, the shaft b' of which passes through and works in the bearings a a* ofthe brackets Al" Through the middle part of the shaft b are formed two holes to receive the wedge keys O Gwhich rest against the bea-rings a.3 at, and preventall longitudinal movement of said crank-shaft while being used.
Upon the inner end ot' the shaft b' is formed a square tapering teuon, which enters a square socket in the plate I), attached to the end of the dasher.
In the outer end of the hearing a* is formed a stufting-box or recess, in which is placed a leather, gumelastic, or other suitable packing, E, to prevent the contents of the churn from leaking out around the shaft'b.
The packing E may be kept in place by the key c, or by an iron washer, F, interposed between the said packing and key, as shown in figs 1 and 2.
G is a plate, having apivot projecting from its middle part and cast solid with it.
H is a plate which is designed tothe let into a hole bored in the inner surface ofthe churn-body, and which is cast with a socket formed in it to receive the pivot of the plate G. By this construction, by removing the outer key c', the crank B may bedrawn outward until the inner end of its shaft b' is flush with the inner surface of the churn-body, allowing the churn-dash to be conveniently removed. v
Having thus described our invention,
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A removable crank-shaft, b', perforated at two points, and provided with wedges Cv C to hohl it in positionfand to admit of its entire or partial removal,
