To all lwhom it Imay concern:
Be itknoivn.. that I, Emma InviNG MA- nnx'i, a citizen ot' the United States, residing at Lynn1 in the county of Essex and State ot llflassachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foi-in Locking and Adjusting Devices; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full7 clear, and exact description ot' the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the sinne.
v The present invention relates to torni loeliing and adjustingid'evices for sole pressing machines such as sole laying, sole ieveling and sole molding machines.
-t torni adjusting and locking device has heretot'irre been .devised which .comprises a locking' pin mounted upon the torni carrier ot the machine and a plate, adapied to have a sliding engagement with the form carrier, adjiistabl)v secured to the 'forni carrier, and provided \vith an opening to receive the locking pin. In the use ot this device the form adjusted with relation to the form carrier by adjusting the plate on the form. This necessitates removing' the torni from the form carrier and consequently more or less difficulty is had in ifetting the form adjusted to precisely the desired position. in sole pressing machines 'the t'orins are trequently removed and replaced and when the plate is adj ustably mounted upon the toi-in itis liable to become displaced by staining,r against the forni. carrier when replaced on the Carrier.
,lhe object ot' the present invention is to provide a forin lockingl and adjusting device by means o'l which the forni can be adjusted while on the carrier andin the use of which there is no liability of any of the parts of the forni or torni. carrier being; displaced when the torni is removed from. or replaced on the carrier.
W'ith the above object in view the present invention contemplates the provision, 'in a sole lpressing machine, of a locking device mounted upon the torni carrier, adapted to engage and lock the torni in position onv the r carrier, and means whereby the locking dcvice an be adjusted on the carrier. ln its broader aspects the invention contemplates I any suitable torni ol"loc, liiii`y device adjustably mounted ou llie t'orin carrier. ln the preferred -t'orni oi' the invention. however7 Specification or" Letters Patent.

i ihe several features ot the present invention will be clearly ui'iderstood from an inspection et' the accompanying drawing in. which- Figure l is a view in side elevation of a torni carrier and form provided with a form present invention in its preferred forni, together with the cross hea-d or plunger ot a upon which the iorm carrier is mounted. liig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view ot' the lioim carrier and torni adjusting' and loching device taken on the line 2--2 of Fig. 3.. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view ,of the parts illustrated in Fig. 2 taken on the line v3-3 olf said figure, and Fig'. fi is a detail cross sectional view taken on the line et-fi of Fig'. 2
With -tlie exception ot the Ytorni locking and adjiistiiig` devices the paris illustrated in the dravi'inc` 'are similar to those -which have heretofore been used in sole leveling` machines and will therefore be only brielly described.
'i'ihe t'orin carrier illiislrated in the drawings comprises a base portion l, a. block Q, to which the base portion is secured and which is mounted so as to have a slight rockinginovenient upon the plunger or cross ing plate Je mounted to slide longitudinally in either direction on the base i. yllhe plate is yieidingly held iii position on the base 1 by means of opposed springs 5 and i', loca'ted in a longitudinal bore .7 of the base. lli. 'rod 8 is secured to an upward projection l) ot the plate #t and extends into the bore Z oiE the base. t. its inner end the rod H is provided opposed springs 5 and i?, the spring 5 beingr coiled about the rod and interposed between tinl Alicad l() and the cnil of (he bore 'T and the 'springl dining interposed between the lidad l() and a sci-civ plugr ll closing tho end lockingand adjusting device embodying the well li'iioivi'i torni ot" sole leveling' machinehead t-ot' the machine, and a. torni support4` ii'ith a head i() which is acted upon by iliotjon with relation to the plate l.
of the bore 7.' By means ot this construction the plate 4 and the form carried thereby is allowed to yield longitudinally in either direction during the sole pressing operation. r1`he form is indicatedat 12 and is provided with the usual, strap or plate 13 upon its upper surface, which is received in a dovetailed guideway 'formed on the lower surface of the form carrying plate 4 by means ot' guide plates 14, as best 's hown in Fig. 3.
The form of locking device illustrated in the d 'awing consists ot' a vertically movable pin 15 which is adapted to engage a hole in the strap'or plate 1?) o't' the form. rlhe locking pin is mounted in the form carrier, and when in engagement` with the hole in the s tap or plate- 1.3, securely locks the form from moving longitudinally in either direcln accord- `ancel with the present inventionthe locking pin 15 is mounted so as to be adjustable longitudinally ot the forni carrier, and to this end a slide 16 is mounted in the platea: and is provided at one end with an upwardly extending'portion in the forin'of a block 1T through which is drilled :i vertical hole to receive the pin 15. Toeiiable the slidc'lo to be-adjnsted longitudinally of the forni' carrier and to be held securely in adjusted position, an adjusting screw '18 is jonrnaled in a slot in the block 17 and has a screw threaded engagement with the upward projection 9 of the plate a.
